I did warn you on Friday that these last NIXER reviews were going to be coming thick and fast, so true to my word, here is the next one, and it was one I was particularly looking forward to as I have to hold my hand up and admit that I haven’t tried any Wick Liquor e-liquids before. I have no idea why as I have seen them around and they sound right up my street, but there you go. Better late than never I guess, so I must once again thank Vape Club for sending over the NIXER X Wick Liquor range and introducing me to another potential essential range of juices.
NIXER X Wick Liquor is another collaboration between two titans of British e-liquid innovation, Dispergo and Wick Liquor. Dispergo are responsible for the NIXER concept, and this time Wick Liquor are bringing the flavour, carefully selected from their pretty extensive catalogue.
By now, you should be very familiar with the NIXER concept, a package deal giving you a bottle of super concentrated e-liquid flavour base combined with a Mixer pack which contains a mixture of nic shots and unflavoured base which, when combined, will give you 60ml of highly flavoursome e-liquid customised to your own preferences and strength requirements. It is a fantastic concept as it really means you can fine tune your e-liquid and can enjoy higher strength juice than you would normally get from the more traditional shortfills which really limit you to just 3mg, ok if you like a cloudy vape, but as a mouth to lung vaper, I want flavour and a bit more strength.
So what about Wick Liquor, who are they and what do they do? Well obviously they make e-liquid, but I wanted to know a bit more, and it didn’t take much digging to do so. Wick Liquor are based in Tamworth and have a mission to really push the limits of what we expect from e-liquid and challenge the conventions of flavour design. The flavours they create are very much aimed at adults who enjoy the good life and want more than just the basics. Now I have to admit that I am a bit of a foodie, and I could be considered a bit of a snob when it comes to flavour, so reading through the detailed descriptions of their e-liquids, well these could have been made for me. I am exactly the kind of person who would rather have braised blackcurrants and Sicilian citrus than just bog standard basic fruit. I like my flavours to sound as good as they taste, and Wick Liquor have managed to nail it on both counts.
Ardour
“Ardour longfill by Nixer x Wick Liquor captures the taste of a berry medley. Sweet blackberry, tangy raspberry and juicy mixed berry flavours combine in every puff”
Ah the braised blackcurrants, music to my ears (or mouth). This really brings out the tart juiciness of the currant which makes it a more complex and a better companion for the berry mix and the raspberry puree. There is a sweetness, but it is a very natural, organic style which comes as a really refreshing change after all the bar salts style flavours that are in right now. It has a great mouthfeel too, with a raspiness that really feels like the fruit does. It is quite a heavy flavour, but it never becomes too much, thanks to the impressive layering you get coming through the vape. I love this flavour and will absolutely be stocking up.
Blue Moon
“Blue Moon longfill by Nixer x Wick Liquor is a frozen berry blend. Sweet blueberry and sharp raspberry notes are chilled by a cool ice finish”
I love how Wick Liquor have specified the variety of blueberry they are aiming for in this flavour, and it is a variety I grow in my garden. I will admit that I wouldn’t have been able to pick out that it was the same cultivar though, but that doesn’t matter, it is the seed of the idea that works. The raspberry comes through a little stronger this time, with a light, sweet but slightly tart flavour on top of the more fragrant blueberries. Finally, there is a hit of ice, initially it feels fairly strong, but it quickly settles which allows the real flavour to develop. It is a deceptively complex recipe.
Boulevard
“Boulevard longfill by Nixer x Wick Liquor delivers a layered blend of sweet fruit punch and tangy loganberry pulp flavours in every puff”
I have no idea what Mardi Gras punch is, but I like it! I am more familiar with loganberries though, those large raspberry/blackberry hybrids which manage to combine the best of both fruits. There is definitely more going on here though, there is a sharpness which is quite refreshing, and an underlying fruitiness which isn’t easy to define but which tastes really good. It is just different from most e-liquids out there at the moment.
Castaway
“Castaway longfill by Nixer x Wick Liquor is a sweet, tropical fruit blend. Juicy mango, exotic pineapple and sweet passion fruit notes are present from inhale to exhale”
After the first three, I was excited to see how this one would go as I do love tropical e-liquids. I was not disappointed. This is a superbly blended recipe with each fruit working in perfect in harmony. Each fruit has the potential to be overpowering, but not here. Here they combine to become a surprisingly delicate bottle of sweet, exotic e-liquid. After all the supercharged, in your face takes on these fruits, this is a much needed change. I am hooked!
Contra
“Contra longfill by Nixer x Wick Liquor is a complex fruit flavour. The sweet and juicy flavour of mixed berry compote is lightened by sharp citrus notes”
I would say this is the strongest of the range, but there is still a lot of subtle detail to be brought out with the right coil choice. Initially it seems like a bold, sharp lemon/grapefruit flavour, but there is a sweet sparkle that sneaks in and dances on the outer reaches of the flavour. It is subtle enough to make it tricky to define, but in this instance, it works. You need to just concentrate on the overall flavour and not get too hung up on the detail, just relax and let the flavour flow.
Final Thoughts
I am kicking myself that it has taken so long to try any Wick Liquor e-liquids before as each bottle has been a delight. I have really been missing more complex flavours, don’t get me wrong, I like bold and simple as much as the next vaper, but I really love flavours that challenge, and all of these do just that. The flavour design is just inspired, with a forensic level of detail and layering. If you like e-liquids that aren’t basic or loaded with sweeteners, you need to check these out. I can safely say that I am now converted.
If you would like to try the NIXER X Wick Liquor, or any of the fantastic NIXER ranges, head over to our buddies at Vape Club, and you can pick them up for just £11.99 a pack. If you want to stock up on a few bottles, they are also included in the 2 for £20 offer too.
Many thanks to Vape Club for sending in the NIXER X Wick Liquor range in for review.
