Vaporesso sent me a bundle of devices and flavours for their new Deliciu Mate Pod System. I’ve been trying out all the flavours over the past couple of weeks and can now report back.
The Deliciu Mate is an 800mAh pod system that takes both pre-filled Deliciu pods and Vaporesso Xros pods to allow you to use your own liquids as well. You don’t get an Xros pod in the pack, just one of the Deliciu flavours, but it’s nice to see that you can use this handy little device for your own juices as well. The device comes in six different colours, and the pods are 2ml and are filled with the flavour on the pack, which is shown prominently on the packaging. The device has fixed airflow to give a medium MTL draw but there are a couple of little airflow holes you can cover if you’d like it tighter, as is the norm with this kind of kit.
There’s a USB Type C slot for charging, but no cable included in the box, just the device and a pod. That’s not an issue as most of us will have thousands of those tiny little cables floating around anyway, I know I do. Vaporesso say in their marketing that the battery charge will last you three pods worth of juice before needing recharged. I never let mine run out so I’m not sure about that, but I do find that the battery charges a little slowly due to the 5v/0.5 amp charging. It does allow for pass through charging though so you can puff away while waiting on it. You can also track the charge with the four LED light system on the front of the battery.
If I was to compare the device to anything pre-existing, I’d say it’s similar to an Xros mini, just a little plainer, smaller, and with less battery capacity, along with the Deliciu branding on it. It works the same way as well, you just take the film off the bottom of the pre-filled pod, pop it in, and vape away. Of course, if you’re using an Xros pod, remember to fill it with juice first! It also works the other way around too. If you already have an Xros device, then the 2ml Deliciu pods will fit that as well, making the whole range very versatile.
The Deliciu juice range is Vaporesso’s answer to bar salt style liquids. They’re all filled with cooling and sweetener and let you have that disposable taste without having to dispose of the device itself. Pods come in packs of 2 and they’re 20mg, 2ml nic salt juices with lots of flavour. You can also buy the range in bottles of 10ml for use in your other refillable devices.
I was sent 13 of the 15 flavours to try out so I’ll go through them now for you. Some are staples of your usual bar salt range, but there are a couple that are a bit different so there will be something for everyone in here. I’ll lead, as usual, with the fact that these juices are very sweet, so if you’re not a fan of sweet, strong vapes then these are perhaps not for you, but they do certainly get better the more you vape them, as I found out.
The FLavours
Fizzy Cherry
This is a strange one as I’ve had the Deliciu Fizzy Cherry before and it’s different this time. It’s like the glacier cherry you get on top of a Bakewell tart, with a ton of sweetener that makes the flavour a lot lighter than it used to be. I’m even getting a slight watermelon taste here for some reason and I even opened the other set of pods I got with the flavour in it to check it wasn’t mislabelled. It’s not, and it’s not unpleasant, I was just expecting something different.
Pineapple Ice
This is a sweetie like pineapple that also manages to be quite realistic. The fruit side of the flavour helps to make this one a lot deeper and I like it a lot, as I do most pineapples. The cooling effect really adds to it and lifts it up a lot to make this one of the nicest flavours in the range.
Strawberry Raspberry Cherry Ice
The cherry here is the same as the fizzy cherry from before and it boosts the subtle strawberry and the tart raspberry quite nicely. You get the raspberry on the back end of the draw and the 2 berries make this juice a little deeper than the cherry on its own. One of those that gets nicer the more you vape on it.
Blackberry Lime
Oooh this is a dark blackberry with a lime note in it to zing it up nicely. I love the combination of flavours and it’s a very pleasant juice. The sweetness brings out an almost blackcurrant taste, but it is that little bit darker overall. The lime comes on the aftertaste again and it’s a sweet, rather than zesty lime. A nice addition.
Raspberry Key Lime
Oooh again. This one is different. Different in a good way. Both flavours are as strong as each other, the raspberry brings fruity, and the lime brings a tangy sweetness that enhances the key lime flavour that’s mixed in. The lime also gives a touch of fizz. I love this one!
Menthol
What can you say about menthol? It’s minty. This one has a touch of spearmint and isn’t overly done on the menthol side so the usual strong throat hit is a touch smoother. It’s very sweet but is also nice and fresh.
Strawberry Kiwi
There’s a theme with these flavours and it’s that they are all very sweet. That’s not a bad thing but it leaves the flavour in your mouth, rather than at the back of your tongue, where I usually taste things. Maybe I’m weird I don’t know. This one is a nice strawberry kiwi, the fruit of the strawberry mixes in with the watery kiwi and leaves a sugary coating on your whole mouth. There’s a reason this is a popular flavour, and it tastes nice.
Grape
I was expecting a really sweet grape juice, given how the others have tasted but I was surprised here. It is sweet but there’s a darkness in there that gives the overall profile a deepness that I really like. There’s always one juice in a range that makes me vape it more, even though I’m not sure about it and this grape is the one for this range.
Blueberry Sour Raspberry
Oh my goodness this is a nice one. There’s no generic blue raspberry flavour here. I get a strong sweet but slightly sour raspberry that’s managed by the sweet blueberry on the back end. The blueberry just pops in to raise the flavour up and the sweetener really enhances the whole thing. It’s lovely.
Watermelon Ice
Now this is a watermelon. It tastes like watermelon with a sprinkle of sugar on it and a kick of cooling. I’ve not found these juices to be full of cooling, Vaporesso have let the sweetener do the lifting on this range, but there’s just enough to freshen the melon up this time. They have really caught the sweetness of a real watermelon for me, more so than a sweetie like melon you get in a lot of juices.
Pink Lemonade
I’m a fan of pink lemonade vape juices personally and Vaporesso have nailed this one without going overboard on the sweetness. Of course, to be a good drink vape it needs to be sweet but they’ve measured it really well on this flavour. It has more of the fruitiness of a good pink lemonade but with the right amount of lemonade as well. The cooling works brilliantly too. A definite winner for me.
Kiwi Passionfruit Guava
I’ve mentioned before that I don’t always think this flavour works brilliantly but there’s a lovely tropical taste to this one that makes it very vapable. The kiwi is in there but it’s subtle and not jumping out like it does a lot of the time. Again, the sweetness makes it work and there’s just enough cooling in it. Another decent pod.
Lemon Lime
Citrus is the main take away from this. It’s a sweet lime that blends in well with the lemon to give an overall citrusy, but not too sour, taste all over my mouth. Again, while very sweet it’s done well, and the cooling is spot on.
Conclusion
Deliciu have done well to curate a nice range of flavours that seem to get better the more you vape on them. My aversion to sweetener went quite quickly as the underlying flavours shone through, although the sweetness is still there to enhance the rest. They’ve also tempered the cooling perfectly, none of the juices blasted me with cold like a lot of bar salt style juice does.
The device itself does what it needs to and more, with the option to use the higher ohm Xros pods as well as the pre-filled flavour pods. It’s a good way for Vaporesso to keep these little pocket pod kits in circulation longer than a standard disposable or the prefilled pod kits that are out there with charging capabilities as they keep the familiarity of disposable taste, while allowing new vapers to move onto a more traditional, fillable pod as well.
- You can use Xros pods on this device as well as use the prefilled pods on an Xros device
- Flavours are well made, if sweet
- Nice portable kit
- Maybe a bit too sweet for some
Stephen Gitsham
Reviewer at POTVI was a very militant smoker for many years…why would I stop doing the only thing I had left that I liked doing? Then I fell into vaping in 2017. My wife bought a cheap kit off from Amazon that stopped working and I took it to a local vape shop to see what they could do with it. An hour later and full of new knowledge about watts, ohms, and juice strength, I headed home with a new nautilus mini tank for her and raved to her about the helpful guy in the shop. I must have bored her with all my new found information. I tried her vape that night, and a week later bought my own kit. Then I found POTV and the amazingly helpful and generous people on it. A month later I was making my own (disgusting) vape juice, and a month after that I was winding coils for my new RDA. Six years on and I'm much better at making juice, and I now have no money but lots of shiny mods and tanks
