Riot Connex New Flavours

Riot have released some cracking new flavours for the Connex kit, and Vape Club sent them over to us for review

Vape Club sent me over a Riot Connex device and all the seven new flavours that have been released for this lovely wee semi disposable pod device.

I quite liked Riot juice when I first started buying vape juice. The flavours are strong and sweet, and there are a few to choose from but I went down the DIY route and eliminated sweeteners from most of my preferences, so I haven’t had Riot for a while. These days I am turning back to a sweet juice now that I get to try loads of them, so I was anticipating a decent time with these ones. And I got a decent time as I do really like the design of the Connex, whilst also enjoying the flavours.

The Connex is, simply, a battery that has magnets on it so you can attach prefilled enclosed pods. The battery has 500mAh power in it and the pods come with 2ml of juice in them. It’s also auto draw activated so there are no buttons to complicate things. When you buy the kit, you get two pods of the same flavour and, of course, Riot sell many different flavours in single boxes so you can go nuts and get what you like.

They’ve very much gone down the route of explaining how much waste you’ll not be producing compared to a traditional disposable when using one of these wee kits. It’s on the boxes and on the plastic wallets the devices and pods come in. They do have a point, with this, there are no batteries to dispose of, and you’re only throwing away the pods themselves. While I’d still prefer a mod and tank, I do think this would be handy in a pinch, and I have enjoyed the flavours.

Style wise it’s a bit different from your usual vape. It is literally just a very small battery pack that has magnets on the side, and you attach the pods that have a moulded on mouthpiece and corresponding magnets to make for a good fit and a strong seal. The battery has a USB Type-C port on the bottom for charging, and there’s a little LED light to let you know how much battery power is there. There’s CONNEX branding on one side of the battery, and a half dripping O on the other that completes when you add a pod. I quite like the two-tone effect as the battery is black and the pods bright matte neon colours.

The whole thing is tiny, and you can conceal it in the palm of your hand for vaping discretely. The only issue is that the battery is only 500mAh so if you vape a lot, you’ll be recharging it often. The good thing is that it’s only £7.99 for the Connex kit version so you could cut about with a couple of them and alternate if you want.

Extra pods come in their own box with all the branding and marketing on them, and at £2.99, they’re a nice cheap alternative to your usual 600 puff disposable device.

But it’s the flavours that matter to most people, so I’ll get on with that now. As always with this type of vape, there’s a lot of sweetener and a touch of ice in every flavour.

Apple Burst

Get ready for a crisp, juicy burst of apple, balanced with a refreshing sweetness that leaves you craving more!”

This is the sweet green apple that I like personally. There is a hint of red in there too, but the sweetener makes up for that and it does seem to be quite juicy. It’s a pronounced apple flavour that doesn’t have some of the off notes that I don’t like usually.

Sicilian Lemon Lime

“Prepare for a citrusy blast! The zing of zesty Sicilian lemon and lime, mixed with an icy slush, delivers a bright, refreshing kick that will awaken your senses.”

I was prepared for the citrus, and it didn’t disappoint. As with the other juices in the range, this is super sweet, but it goes well with the limey forward flavour that melds into a nice citrus once the lemon kicks in. I should, by rights, hate this because of the sheer amount of sweetener in it, but I’m becoming accustomed to it a little now and I enjoyed this one a lot.

Banana Ice

“Get ready for a burst of smooth, creamy banana, perfectly balanced with a cool, refreshing icy twist!”

Ah the dreaded banana, my old foe. It’s a foam banana flavour with some ice in it. That’s it. That’s all I’m prepared to say. But seriously, it is a creamy one and it does deliver on its promise. The sweetness goes well with the base flavour and makes for a good version of this.

Blackberry Mojito Ice

“Get ready for a burst of juicy blackberry with a cool, refreshing hint of mint for a deliciously smooth twist!”

I’m not always a big fan of minty vapes. I tend to swerve mojito flavoured ones as well as, well, there’s mint in a mojito. I like this one. The dark blackberry more than makes up for the hint of mint in it and, overall, the juice isn’t as near to being as sweet as all the others. Probably my favourite of the seven.

Triple Mango Ice

“Prepare for a tropical escape! The lush sweetness of mango, paired with an icy cool finish, creates a refreshing burst that will transport your taste buds to paradise”

Triple mango, oh triple mango. Why don’t they just call you mango? This one’s a nice mango that verges on just the wrong side of ripe. There’s a perfume in it that just makes it nice and I’m not usually too keen on perfumey juice but the sweetener in this one lets the perfume blend in and lifts the whole thing up, compared to some other triple mangoes I’ve tried.

Strawberry Kiwi Apple

“Brace yourself for a fruity rush! The sweet burst of strawberry, tangy kiwi, and crisp apple come together in a refreshing mix that'll leave your taste buds tingling.”

This is a new combo on me and it’s a lovely one. The kiwi comes through nicely, with the strawberry sweetening things up and the apple mellowing it all out. It’s a bit different and it works well. I like it. It’s still very sweet but that works for it as the sweetener enhances the fruity flavours.

Strawberry Raspberry Cherry

“Get ready for a burst of sweet strawberry, tangy raspberry, and bold cherry in a perfectly juicy, mouth-watering blend!”

I normally taste the cherry first on this profile but with this one it’s kind of a mish mash of all three, which is a lovely change. I get the cherry taste, mixed with the sweet strawberry and the raspberry (funny that eh?). There’s sweetener there, but it’s not overly done for once in these flavours and it makes for a very nice vape.

Conclusion

Riot have brought their super sweet flavours to these pods and have also managed to give a new twist on disposable/semi disposable vapes. I love the little battery and the way the pods snap onto it. I love how tiny it all is, and I really like a couple of the flavours.

While they may be a bit sweet for me personally, the missus loves them all and (at the time of writing) has pretty much tanned four of them, leaving me with the odd session here and there so I could taste them properly to write this review. I even had to beg her to leave the device here today while she works so I could get some photos of it!

For those who like disposable flavours, this kit will be exactly what you’re looking for. The flavours are vibrant and sweet, with a touch of ice. The puff count is the same and you don’t have to throw the whole thing away anymore.

For those, like me, who are more into something else, these wee pods won’t register too much, but it’s good that Riot are trying to change the way they work with disposables, and that can only be a good thing for both the environment and the industry.

Many thanks to Vape Club for sending in these new Riot Connex kits for review.

I was a very militant smoker for many years…why would I stop doing the only thing I had left that I liked doing?  Then I fell into vaping in 2017.  My wife bought a cheap kit off from Amazon that stopped working and I took it to a local vape shop to see what they could do with it.  An hour later and full of new knowledge about watts, ohms, and juice strength, I headed home with a new nautilus mini tank for her and raved to her about the helpful guy in the shop. I must have bored her with all my new found information.  I tried her vape that night, and a week later bought my own kit. Then I found POTV and the amazingly helpful and generous people on it. A month later I was making my own (disgusting) vape juice, and a month after that I was winding coils for my new RDA.  Six years on and I'm much better at making juice, and I now have no money but lots of shiny mods and tanks
