IVG Smart 5500

IVG go big with the Smart 5500 disposable kit

Share on:

Vape Club sent me over 10 of the new IVG Smart 5500 disposable ready to use kits to try out this week.

I’ve only ever tried IVG’s bottled vape juice before, and wow it’s tasty, but I found it was always hard on your coils so a disposable with 10mls of their tasty juice in it was quite an attractive proposition for me. Now I’m still not 100% on board with disposable vapes personally, but I can appreciate that they are popular and have helped a ton of people who would never pick up a mod and tank to quit smoking. It’s so easy to dismiss disposables as a hobbyist vaper, but I do applaud the efforts of companies to give us TPD compliant larger capacity disposable vapes. There are some interesting ones out just now, and I’m hoping they will replace the smaller capacity ones in the local corner shops and the like soon so that the illegal market has less of a hold. I’m also becoming a fan of the disposable type flavours myself now that I’m trying a lot of different ones, and I feel that IVG have done a good job with these ones.

Anyway, onto the review.

The IVG Smart 5500 is a disposable device that comes with a 2ml prefilled tank and an additional 10ml of IVG juice so that you’re getting approximately 5500 puffs (funny that). It has a 1000mAh battery inside to keep you puffing all day, and there’s a USB Type C slot on the bottom to allow you to charge it up when you need to.

The prefilled tank has a mesh coil inside to maximise the flavour, and the additional 10ml autofills once it’s in place. To insert the juice section, you just have to take the rubber bung out that’s at the bottom of the gap and slide the juice section in until it clicks.

The kit looks pretty good. The device itself comes in one of those plastic envelope type wraps you get with all disposables, and the juice section is in its own sealed pack, the same as you’d get with a pack of coils. The device looks kind of like a side by side mod without the 510 when the juice section isn’t in it, and I think the whole thing looks very well made and designed, despite being all plastic.  Branding is obvious with IVG printed on the front and the name of the flavour above that. You’ve also got the word “smart” on both sides in raised lettering to remind you what you’re vaping on.  The juice section is clear so that you can see how much juice is left and that’s a bonus for a disposable.

There are 30 flavours in the range, and I was sent 10 to try out and give feedback on. All the flavours have varying degrees of cooling additives and sweetener in them so if you’re not a fan of disposables, then these won’t change your mind, but the flavours underneath are really good if you are already on board.

Fizzy Cherry

“Puts dark cherry on ice in this sweet, yet frosty blend.”

The fizzy cherry is nice, but it’s super sweet. The cherry doesn’t taste as dark as the marketing suggests to me, it’s a little brighter and lighter, but I’m probably just tasting the sweetness. It’s a good cherry, and there’s a definite fizz there, but by goodness it’s sweet. Have I mentioned that it’s sweet yet?

Lemon and Lime

“Features a tangy blend of zingy lemon and zesty lime.”

I can taste the lime clearly in this juice. It’s a nice change as the lime usually lurks in the background but it’s forward here and the lemon blends in on the aftertaste nicely. The lime is sour and does have zest, with the lemon coming in sweetly rather than bitterly to make this classic combo a good one.

Blue Raspberry Ice

“Provides the sweet and sour taste of blue raspberry followed by cool ice notes.”

Now this is a lovely blue raspberry flavour. The mix of flavours is done well and there are no off notes or dryness at all. It’s a very fruity juice with the ice there to complement the flavours rather than drown them out. To me, it tastes like a blue slushy.

Pineapple Passionfruit

“Plays between sweet and tangy with sharp pineapple and juicy passionfruit notes.”

It’s a nice tropical tasting mix. The two fruits mix nicely, and you have the tang of the pineapple being tempered by the sweetness of the passionfruit. I found that the pineapple comes first and gives way to the kick of the passionfruit. It’s a cold one, and the taste lingers after you’ve put the vape down.

Grape

“The sweet and juicy-tasting flavour of grape from start to finish”

This is a typical grape flavour. It’s sweet, and you can taste the darkness of the skin while still being very like a nice grape juice. There’s no musty aftertaste here, and the sweetness goes well with it. I’m not a big fan of grape vapes, but my missus tells me this is one of the better ones she’s tried herself.

Red Apple Ice

“Takes sharp apple notes and puts them on ice for a frosty exhale.”

Another ice juice that doesn’t have a ton of ice in it. The sweet red apple comes through strongly, and I’m getting a slight touch of pear as well, perhaps to juice it up a bit as I know from experience that apple vapes can be a little dry. I’ve enjoyed this one, even though I’m more of a fan of green apples.

Tropical Fruits

“Combines tropical fruits to deliver a sweet and tangy vape.”

This is a lovely mix of tropical fruits. I get pineapple and mango with, weirdly, a touch of peach, along with others to give exactly what the marketing promises; a sweet and tangy vape. I think this is one of my favourites of the range as I’ve had it sitting next to me for a wee puff now and again.

Kiwi Passionfruit Guava

“Layers sweet kiwi and passionfruit with tangy guava”

The passionfruit and guava are quite prominent, but the kiwi is in there as well. I do like this combo of flavours, but I sometimes wonder if they perhaps don’t go that well together. I personally like this one, the aftertaste is lovely on it, and I have been going back to it a lot so perhaps they’re fine and I’m just making stuff up in my head.

Cola Ice

“Takes inspiration from the classic soda with fizzy cola notes and a cool ice finish.”

There’s not as much sweetness as I’ve had on other colas here, but it’s still sweet enough for a drinks based liquid.  The cola really comes through, and the ice makes it even better. There’s also a slight fizz effect to top it off so you’re not getting the flat diet coke you get on some other cola vapes. It’s a good one.

Strawberry Raspberry Cherry

“Layers sweet and sour notes in this strawberry, raspberry and cherry mix.”

Now this, this is my jam. It’s a berry explosion. The, still very sweet, cherry gives the two berries a lovely boost on the aftertaste. All three are very well balanced, and none overpower any of the others to give a leading flavour note. They just mix so well. This is my favourite of them all and another that I’ve had next to me for a quick toot on now and again.

Final Thoughts

IVG have put their own spin on a larger capacity disposable vape. The IVG Smart 5500 is designed well, and is compact and light enough to carry around easily, while still giving you the added capacity that other countries are allowed.

The flavours are all very sweet, with the addition of cooling additives to appeal to disposable fans, but the flavours underneath that are well thought out and tasty at the same time. I’ve found them to be a nice alternative to my own mixes, and a sweet treat on occasion throughout my day vaping.

They may be too sweet for a lot of people and they’re not something I could vape all day every day, but I am enjoying the flavours and the ease of use that the design brings to the table.

One thing I have to mention is the blooming sticker that’s on the pod when you take it out of the packaging. Without very careful peeling, it’s going to leave a big chunk of glue gunk on the nice plastic pod, and it looks terrible. I messed up on three of the pods, and you can probably see that on one of my photos.

You can buy the IVG Smart 5500 from Vape Club for £11.95 per pack. Thanks again to them for sending me over the flavours to try out for POTV.

Pros
  • Large capacity disposable
  • Flavours are well crafted
  • Kit looks quite good, like a normal vape
Cons
  • Still a disposable
  • Might be a bit too sweet for some
  • Sticker on the juice pod can leave residue on the pod

I was a very militant smoker for many years…why would I stop doing the only thing I had left that I liked doing?  Then I fell into vaping in 2017.  My wife bought a cheap kit off from Amazon that stopped working and I took it to a local vape shop to see what they could do with it.  An hour later and full of new knowledge about watts, ohms, and juice strength, I headed home with a new nautilus mini tank for her and raved to her about the helpful guy in the shop. I must have bored her with all my new found information.  I tried her vape that night, and a week later bought my own kit. Then I found POTV and the amazingly helpful and generous people on it. A month later I was making my own (disgusting) vape juice, and a month after that I was winding coils for my new RDA.  Six years on and I'm much better at making juice, and I now have no money but lots of shiny mods and tanks
