The Electronic Cigarette Company (TECC) sent me a bundle of seven of these Elf Bar 1200 devices to have a go on.
The Elf Bar 1200 is a 650mAh internal battery, rechargeable device that allows you to pop in two pods, so you get twice the amount of juice in one kit. The pods are filled with 2ml of juice each, and there are single flavoured ones as well as ones with two flavours in the pack.
The device comes in a box, but is also wrapped up in that foily, plastic packaging, as are the two provided pods. There’s a sticker just below the mouthpiece that instructs you how to fit the pods but that’s easy enough, you take the mouthpiece off and pop them in the way you’re instructed to on the pods themselves, then replace the mouthpiece and start vaping. When a pod is done, you take the mouthpiece off again and turn it 180 degrees so it’s sitting over the remaining full pod. Boom, done. As the kit is rechargable, when things are getting low, you simply plug in a USB-C to boost things back up again.
A couple of small things to note before I get onto the flavours. The mouthpiece cap isn’t too hard to take off, you just need to snap it to the side as you’re taking it off, rather than try to pull upwards. Getting it back on sometimes needs a bit of pushing down at first. It eases off after the first go but it does need mentioning as there are people out there that have dexterity issues, and it shouldn’t be as hard to assemble as it sometimes is. The other thing is that there is no way to see the juice level. Some of the pods are in lovely different colours but they’re not transparent. For instance, the pink edition pods are (not surprisingly) pink but it’s full plastic and you just don’t know how much is left so you’re going to have to suffer the dry hit effect when the juice runs out.
So, it’s an easy enough device to use, and it is nearly as simple as a normal 600 puff vape but with twice the juice.
But it’s the flavours that make a vape so on we go with the descriptions. As always, I’ll state that this is just my own opinion, I’m not a wine or whisky taster type person so I’m going with what I experience and not what the flavours will be like exactly. As these are based on bar salts style e-liquids, there is going to be a certain level of sweetening and cooling in all the juices so if you’re looking just for flavouring then you’re out of luck here.
Strawberry Ice
This is one of the single flavour editions so all you get is two pods of the flavour in the pack. It’s a candied strawberry that is quite light and cold. When I say light, I don’t mean there’s no flavour, I mean it’s a brighter flavour than a lot of the deeper strawberries out there due to the sweet aspect that’s in there. The flavour is quite strong and is nice, but I do feel it needs the added sweetness to work properly.
Yellow Edition – Pineapple Ice and Mango
This one’s a doubler so you get both single flavours in one pack.
The pineapple ice is very sweet, but it captures the whole fruit, rather than just focusing on the juice or the syrup like a lot do. It’s surprisingly deep, and I’ve quite enjoyed it. You get used to the added sweetener after a while and you taste the flavour underneath. It’s also worth noting that Elf bar seem to use just neotame sweetener, rather than a mix of that and sucralose. I know that the neotame is a lot less sugary tasting than sucralose and doesn’t coat the mouth as much. It makes the juices sweet but not quite as cloying for me personally.
The mango is a an earthy one, with no hints of the usual perfume or floral aspects that a lot of mango vapes have. It’s very nice for a disposable type of juice and is not amazingly sweet. While it’s a light flavour again, it does me nicely.
Blue Edition – Blueberry Ice and Blueberry Raspberry Lemonade
Another doubler so two different single flavours here.
The blueberry ice is a typical blueberry for me. It’s quite musty tasting and there’s not an amazing amount of cooling to it. Despite the must, it is quite a nice blueberry and doesn’t overpower like some can. Still sweet but, again, not overly so like I was expecting.
The blueberry raspberry lemonade has the lemonade and the raspberries mixing in nicely to give an almost pink lemonade vibe to it but then you get the blueberry crashing in to tone the sweetness down a little bit and compliment the two other flavours. It’s a well-done juice.
Watermelon Ice
It’s a very sweet candied but, also at the same time, realistic watermelon. The wife described it as being a ripe watermelon that’s just about to be overripe. I don’t listen to her much though as I just got the candied type of flavour myself. It is still watermelony though and the vape is smooth despite it being quite a cold juice. A touch too sweet for my tastes, but the wife loves it.
Pink Edition – Pink Lemonade and Sweet Fruit Punch
Again, a doubler, two separate flavours and not a strange hybrid drink monster.
The pink lemonade is exactly what the name suggests. Pink lemonade. It’s super sweet, but drinks are meant to be so that’s not a dig. The lemonade comes through well and the fruitiness from the pink bit is there as well. It’s a strong-tasting juice that a lot of people will enjoy.
The sweet fruit punch is an enigma. It seems to have berries, tropical fruits and citrus in there as well. It’s like someone has just mixed every fruit they can find and hoped for the best, and it works! It’s a very strong flavour that I’ve come back to a couple of times.
Blueberry Sour Raspberry
It’s a touch too sweet to have any noticeable sour aspect, but the blueberry is sweet and fruity. There’s no hint of the mustiness of the blueberry on its own, and the raspberry is sweet and tart. It’s not as strong a flavour as some of the others but it’s a lovely vape overall and is my favourite of the bunch.
Strawberry Raspberry Cherry Ice
I get a maraschino style cherry mixing in with a light strawberry. The raspberry struggles to come through at first but as you vape on, they all come out a bit more. The strawberry adds sweetness, the raspberry a tang, and the cherry gives the overall profile a nice full bodied flavour. Another good one.
Final Thoughts
Elf bar is a popular brand and it’s easy to see why. The flavours are pronounced, and the additives add to the overall taste instead of just being there as they sometimes can be. They are well done, and I can see why people like them. My missus certainly does as she’s much more into these style vapes than I am. She even got me to up the score for this review as she is so taken with the Elf bar flavours.
Elf bar are continuing the trend of giving more for your money with making this a double pod type of deal. I know they have gone further though and perhaps some people would prefer their other offerings with more juice in them, but for affordability, you do get more, given that these are only £6.99, compared to about a fiver for half the amount in a normal, single use device.
You can buy the Elf bar 1200 from TECC for £6.99 a pop and I see that they have other flavours/versions coming soon as well.
- Good popular flavours
- More value for money
- Sweetener isn’t as intrusive as some
- Cap can be a bit tight to get back on
- Dry hits when it runs out
Stephen Gitsham
Reviewer at POTVI was a very militant smoker for many years…why would I stop doing the only thing I had left that I liked doing? Then I fell into vaping in 2017. My wife bought a cheap kit off from Amazon that stopped working and I took it to a local vape shop to see what they could do with it. An hour later and full of new knowledge about watts, ohms, and juice strength, I headed home with a new nautilus mini tank for her and raved to her about the helpful guy in the shop. I must have bored her with all my new found information. I tried her vape that night, and a week later bought my own kit. Then I found POTV and the amazingly helpful and generous people on it. A month later I was making my own (disgusting) vape juice, and a month after that I was winding coils for my new RDA. Six years on and I'm much better at making juice, and I now have no money but lots of shiny mods and tanks
