I’m already a fan of Uwell’s MTL coils so I was more than happy to give the new Whirl S a...erm... whirl! It’s an AIO (All In One) device which basically means what it says as everything is enclosed as one device as the tank is sat inside. It is also a pen kit due to its shape, but the lines are well and truly blurred these days as it shares many similarities to a pod kit.

One of the features of the Whirl S that I haven’t seen before in a pen mod was the auto-draw. I tend not to swot up on tech specs and features until after I have tested it so I get a novice experience, and the auto-draw was a nice surprise.
Unboxing
The Whirl S kit comes in quite a large box considering the size of the device, there’s an outer sleeve with basic information and a generic image which doesn’t show your chosen colour, but this is indicated elsewhere on the box.
Removing the sleeve reveals the two piece sturdy box, there’s a nice hygiene and security seal which proves the device hasn’t been opened since leaving the factory, and the documents are loose on the top (mine made a run for it and flew away when I opened it). There’s a frustration free tab ribbon to help you remove the kit from the foam inlay which was a nice little touch.
The box at the side holds a small USB cable and an extra 0.8ohm coil, and there is also a bag of spare seals. The manual is a decent size and very easy to follow.
First Impressions
The size was slightly larger than I expected for a 2ml device but is still compact enough for a pen AIO, it’s 20mm diameter and 122mm tall, a reasonable weight and feels solid in the hand.
The outer all metal tube has two finishes; a stain top and bottom section and a polished centre which is quite a fingerprint magnet. The fire button is positioned in an ergonomic place and is set into an LED surround which is clear to see while vaping. The base is plastic and has battery vents.
The tank is held in place magnetically and is fairly secure though there is a slight wobble but it is not noticeable when in use. It can only be positioned in one place and there are two tabs on the tank that need to be set into two notches in the battery. It’s a little strange as it almost fits when rotated 180 degrees but it protrudes about 1mm and won’t fire.
The tank itself is simple looking but is really well designed and probably the highlight of this kit. The top cap unscrews counter clockwise revealing two small kidney fill ports that accept regular 10ml bottle nibs. The drip tip has a 510 fitting so you can change this for your own. The main tank section is chromed and very shiny, there are two large juice windows which are also visible when fitted into the battery section as it also has also has two windows.
Fitting the coil is interesting as there is a tiny tab which doubles as an airflow lock, you need to gently push the tab down and the coil will pull out easily. The new coil will simply click into place securely.
The adjustable airflow method is superb and well thought out. There is a ring on the base of the tank that rotates and is on a stopper (coil release tab), the inset is red plastic which makes the visibility perfect. Fully open you can get a tight RDL draw, and fully closed is a super tight MTL draw, overall I was very impressed with the tank.
Filling the tank was simple enough as it is fixed in place so you can unscrew the top cap without the everything else spinning. Filling it up was mess free but the windows don’t show the top of the tank so you have to judge how full it is from the top which was a bit of a pain but a quirk you soon get used to.
Controls
The only controls you have are firing the device and turning it On or Off:
- 5 x Fire = Turns device On/Off
- Press fire to vape or use the auto draw
The LED around the fire button lets you know the battery status:
- GREEN = 60% -100%
- BLUE = 30% - 60%
- RED = Under 30% (recharge)
Unfortunately there is no power adjustment as it is fixed and coil specific. The battery capacity is 1450mAh and is recharged via the USB-C port on the opposite side, I couldn’t find any mention of the charging current so I suspect it is a standard 1 Amp current, though not the fastest it is safer for an enclosed cell like this as it doesn’t get very warm while charging.
Performance
Once filled and primed (leave the juice to saturate the coil for 10 minutes after filling), it was time to see how the Whirl S vapes; I closed the airflow down to a couple of mm and tested the auto-draw first, the vape was instant and didn’t miss a beat, there simply isn’t any need to use the fire button. It behaved the same for a wide open RDL, the vape was quite warm and the flavour was superb, I have used these coils before and they are amongst the very best for MTL flavour. Overall the quality of the MTL vape is spot on and very smooth so I have no complaints, my only niggle would be that I would have preferred a basic adjustable power, the 0.8ohm coil at full power was a bit too warm for my tastes so I would have chosen a lower power setting.
The battery life was decent and lasted me a long day, and charging took over an hour from very low but generally my daily top up was under an hour.
Pros
- The tank is very well designed
- Effective auto-draw
- Smooth and fully adjustable airflow
- Simple and elegant styling
- Superb flavour
Cons
- Lack of adjustable power
Final Thoughts
The Uwell Whirl S is a superb little AIO and flavour is amongst the very best for MTL vaping. The auto-draw is an added bonus for a pen AIO like this and the only time I touch the fire button is to power it on and off.
I have to remind myself of the current price Health Cabin are knocking these out for; $13.69 is insane for what you get and I can’t see anyone being remotely disappointed with this bargain.
