OXVA VPRIME Pod Kit

OXVA are celebrating a big birthday with some great new releases, and we got to take a look at the OXVA VPRIME pod kit

Share on:

Can you believe that OXVA have been around for five years already! With their consistent high quality and funky designs, they really have become a part of the furniture, and you know that when you buy an OXVA kit, you are in for a great vape. So when they reached out to ask if we’d like to try out the new VPRIME pod kit, a device that claims to be the first auto draw DTL with a 3D colour screen, well it didn’t take long to say yes!

Unboxing, Contents, and Specs

The VPRIME comes in a very smart looking black box which has a very cool rainbow reflective effect which looks amazing when the light catches it. It sums up the kit well, at first it looks like any standard vape box, but then you see the shine and the hidden depth. It’s pretty cool! Of course, it has all the usual blurb written along the sides and back of the slip case, but even that looks smart in gold lettering. Sliding the main tray out, you get your first look at the kit and some simple instructions on how to use everything. It is all basic stuff, but a god vape doesn’t need to be complicated.

The VPRIME comes with a 0.2ohm pod fitted, you just need to remove the sticker on the base which prevents it from making contact with the power during shipping, but there is also a 0.6ohm pod hidden in the accessories box, along with a really nice red braided USB cable. We get so many USB cables with all the review kits, but I took an instant shine to it, I guess I am easily pleased! Finally, there is a book of words so you can read up on how to use it in more detail, although really you don’t need much more than what is already printed in the box insert.

  • Output power: 5-60W
  • Display screen: 0.96” colour screen
  • Battery: 2600mAh
  • Charging: 5V/2A type C
  • Resistance range: 0.1-3.0ohm
  • Size: 23.45 x 37.8 x 105.5mm
  • Weight: 116g

Now on to the kit. I was sent a couple of variants, Brown Leather, Blue Leather, and Glorious Gold, but there are eight options to choose from all together. The glorious gold is pretty spectacular, they named it well, but I was more drawn to the brown leather. Testing vape gear in winter makes you really appreciate a soft warm wrap. Whilst not exactly heavy, the 116g gives it a reassuringly solid feel, and the rounded sides and corners add to the comfort. It feels good. The charging port is on the base which isn’t my preferred placement, but it helps to keep the sides look less cluttered. Speaking of the sides, on one there are the up and down buttons, and on the other is the airflow control.

The front is where you’ll find the screen, and it’s a beauty. There are three different styles on the display, the OXVA one which kind of high tech looking with all the info displayed clearly, the astronaut which still displays the info but also comes with a puff animation of the spaceman doing a jet jump, and the rocket which isn’t quite as clear as the other displays but has an animated take off when you inhale. It is my favourite animation, but they all look really good on the screen thanks to the great colour display which is crisp and vibrant. If animated screens aren’t your thing, stick with the standard OXVA version as it also doubles as stealth mode by staying dark when you take a puff, and it also really increases how long you get on a charge so if you can’t access charging for a while, this is also a good option.

There is also a light bar under the screen, you can select the breathing one which flows across the colour spectrum, a sliding one which stays one colour depending on how much charge you have and intensifies as you puff, and finally there is a solid one which just lights up full blast in the colour reflecting your charge levels again. Personally, I found them all a bit too bright, so I turned the light off, but it is always nice to be able to customise things.

The only other option in the menu is to clear the puff counter. But there are still a few tweaks you can manually make. The OXVA VPRIME  will automatically select what power it puts out depending on what pod you use, but you can fine tune things with the up and down buttons on the side. Personally, I found the factory settings to be a bit hot, so I had to drop them down by a few notches. Then you can also adjust the airflow using the slider which feels firm and stays put where you set it. It is only a small slider, but you can take it from super airy to cheek pulingly tight. I found that full open seemed to affect how well the auto draw worked, it is happier is you use the power button if you want the airiest vape. I liked it around the halfway mark.

The Pods

The kit comes with a 0.2ohm pod and a 0.6ohm which is great as you can try two quite different styles. I was also sent some 0.4ohm pods and OXVA are bringing out a 0.8ohm pod which makes this a very versatile kit, and personally I’m looking forward to trying the more MTL option out.

Filling is done via a silicon flap on the side of the pod so you can fill up without removing the pod. It also means the base is fully sealed, so you won’t get any leakage or condensation. The hole is a decent size too, so filling is mess free.

The mouthpiece is an integrated part of the pod, but it is a nice size and shape and works well for all vape styles.

I found there was a bit of a break in period when first using a fresh pod, the flavour is good but slightly dull initially. But once you have run a tanks worth of juice through it, everything opens up nicely and the flavour really starts to come through, thick and lush with a good amount of detail for more complex e-liquids. The 0.2ohm pod was quite a heavy vape, on a cold day you can see the clouds dropping with the amount of moisture, the 0.6ohm was more suited to my preference as I’m not much of a clouds girl.

Whichever option you go for, you will get a great vape, and even better, the pods last really well. I have been using one pod intensively for well over a week now and the flavour is just as good as it was when the coil had first broken in, and believe me, I have put a lot of juice through it.

Final Thoughts

I have really enjoyed my time with the OXVA VPRIME pod kit, it is a real workhorse with great performance, fantastic flavour, and superb battery life. It is also easy to use so you can just fill up and go. It is a good looking kit, and it feels great to use. I love the screen and the animations, it adds some fun, and god knows we all need something to make us smile at the moment. I can’t say it brings anything new but what it does, it does really well, and any kit that gives me a couple of days between charges is always going to rate highly.

Many thanks to OXVA for sending in the VPRIME in for review.

Pros
  • Easy to use
  • Feels great
  • Impressive battery life
  • Mess free
  • A real workhorse
Cons
  • TPD pods are too restrictive for this kit, but that is not OXVA's problem
