SourceMore sent the GeekVape Aegis Legend III 3 over for review, and I’ve been hammering it a lot these past couple of weeks to see how it does. Not literal hammering, although it might stand up to some of that given its IP68 rating.
The original Legend was one of the first external battery mods I purchased for myself when I started vaping, mainly due to the shockproof aspect as I do tend to drop mods a lot. I didn’t like it. I thought it was a little weaker power delivery wise than the other mods I had, and it just didn’t give me as punchy a vape. I realise now I probably didn’t delve into the menus enough to tailor it to my preferences, but back then I didn’t even know my preference or how to get it properly so there’s that. Don’t get me wrong, I still used the hell out of that mod and it’s still going now, but I’ve got so many other ones that it’s been consigned to the mod drawer of doom where my old, out of favour mods go to retire.
GeekVape have developed a lot of devices since then, and I have tried a good few. They’re always reliable, and new iterations come out all the time, so I was quite excited to try out the Legend III 3 as they call it but I’m just going with Legend 3 for this review.
The Legend III 3 is a dual 18650 battery mod that goes up to 200W. GeekVape have packed a lot of features into the mod, and there is now a memory mode that allow you to store five different settings, not a new thing by any means, but a good thing for those who like to chop and change their vaping styles. They’ve also added a “touch to unlock” system on the back of the device, so it unlocks when you hold it. That is a new thing for me, and I’ve been loving it personally as I tend to take a draw without looking at the screen and hate taking a 200W draw on a coil built for much less, it’s so burny on the throat. No more accidently upping the wattage in the pocket for me!
Style wise there are also a few new things going on. The mod looks the same as ever overall, with the classic Legend shape and the rubber/leather back cushion, but they have updated things like the USB port cover. It’s no longer deeper than the Mariana Trench so you don’t have to use the included USB cable to get it charged up if that’s your thing. I always use an external charger anyway, but it shows that GeekVape listen to the customers and adapt things. The battery cover on the bottom seems to have been made better too, with a nice rubber cover that clicks in very nicely and sits well. The most obvious change for me is the buttons. Gone is the big chunky fire button, it’s been toned down massively and clicks well, with a good response to it. The adjustment buttons have been updated as well so they now sit in the screen as part of the screen, and they work well too with a satisfying response. It looks so much better and much more modern. It’s strange what a small change can make to your perception of things.
And they’ve updated the insides as well from what I can read on their webpage. The mod now has the A.S Chip 4.0 in it and charging is meant to go at 5V/3amp so you’ll be able to charge up quickly in an emergency.
The UI looks the same as other GeekVape devices if you’re familiar with them, and it’s easy to navigate the menus. It’s the usual three clicks of the fire button to get to the menus, and then you can navigate with the adjustment buttons and click into the required menu. First you have modes. There’s a smart mode, power mode, boosting mode (I think this is just the usual bypass), memory mode, an eco mode to save battery power, and a TCR menu for temperature control.
Other menus are, lock setting (three different ways to lock the device), puff reset, colour (change the colour of the UI), brightness, and an about page.
I didn’t like the smart mode personally. It assumed that I like to vape at a higher wattage than I do and wouldn’t let me adjust lower than 70W as it gives you a range based on your coil’s resistance. I use rebuildable mesh coils and like it a lot lower than that, so I just settled on the usual power mode for myself. It’d be really good for the tank included in the kit version of this mod and probably for most other stock coil tanks so don’t take this as a moan from me, just a preference.
Power mode is the usual adjust how you like, and I like that. I always tend to stick to this anyway, no matter what else is on offer from a mod (with the odd exception). Boosting mode just gives you a big MAX on the screen so I’m assuming that this is bypass mode by another name. Maybe it’s safer, I don’t know.
The memory mode is seemingly a new thing for the Legend range. I’ve had that on a few mods since my first ever one so, as I’ve said, it’s nothing new, but it is good if you use a lot of different tanks and a few different vaping styles. I have tanks I MTL with, tanks I RDL with, and tanks that I let rip with, so it’s always a great option on a mod if you’re set in your ways with how you set up your tanks.
The Eco mode on the Legend 3 is actually quite good. It runs a bit higher wattage than what I set myself on my own tanks, and it’s non-adjustable so I’m feeling that it’s more for stock coil tanks, but it does give a good draw, not the insipid weak draw that a lot of eco modes tend to give you. Plus there’s the fact it helps save battery power, so it’s another good addition.
The TC/TCR is something I don’t really use so I can’t comment properly on it, but as I use SS mesh strips, I gave it a go. It’s a simple setting for TC, and there’s only the option to adjust the wattage and the temperature with no way to select a material. With the temp setting I like, it works really well, which is nice to see as I’ve always felt that GeekVape underpowered their TC in the past. As I say, I don’t really use TC, so I can’t comment on it properly, but it does work well for what I like and use it for.
In use it’s an easy mod to navigate. They’ve added some features that I really like, like the touch to unlock feature. I just hold the mod, and it unlocks! Leave it a bit and it locks the buttons again, a fantastic quality of life feature for a mod. The smart mode will be good for a lot of normal users, giving a rough range of the best estimated wattage for the coil you’re using, it maybe not for me but it will be good for newer users or those using stock coils. The eco mode seems actually useful for once, I get a good vape from it, and I never get a good vape from an eco mode.
I used my Vandy Vape Kylin M Pro tank on it, along with my Hellvape Dead Rabbit M and Hellvape Fat Rabbit 2 tanks as well. The vape was consistent, and there was no feeling that it was underpowered, so they have really nailed it with the AS 4.0 chip.
Final Thoughts
In the end I have but one tiny little niggle with the mod. The top panel that houses the 510 is easily marked. That’s it, that’s all I can find that I don’t like about this mod, and you can always use a gasket or vanity ring to stop that from happening if you like to keep things pristine.
GeekVape have really done a good job in making a mod that’s accessible to new and weathered users alike. I love it for the functionality and that damned useful lock system, sometimes a gimmick is just amazingly good. Everything about the way the Legend 3 works is customisable, while still having the modes for those who don’t tinker as much. If I was super into TC I might be a little disgruntled that I can’t set curves and such, but I’m not and I love the simple way that works as well, it might even tempt me to use it more often. There’s also the fact that it’s still properly water, dust and shockproof with an IP68 rating.
Even the design is pleasing to me. I like that I can use any old USB C cable now, I like the rubber bottom, I love the adjustment buttons being encased in the bottom of the screen. In short, I love the Legend 3.
Thanks again to Sourcemore for sending the GeekVape Aegis Legend III 3 for review. They have a code to make it a wee bit cheaper at check out and that’s AL3M, but I can see that it’s already discounted on the site so have a look first.
- Updated modes with familiar UI
- Sleeker looking than previous iterations
- Superb button locking system
- No others really unless you’re super into TC

Reviewer at POTVI was a very militant smoker for many years…why would I stop doing the only thing I had left that I liked doing? Then I fell into vaping in 2017. My wife bought a cheap kit off from Amazon that stopped working and I took it to a local vape shop to see what they could do with it. An hour later and full of new knowledge about watts, ohms, and juice strength, I headed home with a new nautilus mini tank for her and raved to her about the helpful guy in the shop. I must have bored her with all my new found information. I tried her vape that night, and a week later bought my own kit. Then I found POTV and the amazingly helpful and generous people on it. A month later I was making my own (disgusting) vape juice, and a month after that I was winding coils for my new RDA. Six years on and I'm much better at making juice, and I now have no money but lots of shiny mods and tanks
