Vaporesso GEN SE

Stephen got his grubby little mitts on the new Vaporesso Gen SE kit and this is what he thought

Sourcemore sent the new Vaporesso Gen SE kit over for review.

Vaporesso are one of the best vape manufacturers in my opinion. Their kits are always well thought out and easy enough to use, plus they update things pretty often so there’s always a new version with updated features if you’re into that sort of thing. The kits are also long lasting for me so I’m generally happy with the one I have and tend to skip a version or two each time.

The Gen SE is a newer version of their 80W single 18650 battery Gen mod. It has the usual Axon chip inside, so you get the proprietary pulse and F(t) modes as well as the others. This Gen mod now has a slide button to lock all of the buttons, which is very handy as I find Vaporesso mods to be quite easy to pocket fire or pocket adjust when I’ve got my big winter jacket on, and I hate taking a draw to find it’s been put up to max while I jiggle about the place. There’s a 0.96” TFT screen and all of the info is quite clear.

The kit comes with the newer iTank T Tank, which has 3ml capacity and an extra 6ml bubble glass. It’s a top fill tank, with top airflow so leaking is not an issue. The tank takes the GTi range of coils, which go from 0.5 to 0.15ohms and the coils all have the Corex 2.0 technology in them for (as advertised) better flavour and longevity.

In the box you get:

  • 1 Vaporesso GEN SE Mod
    1 Vaporesso iTank T (3ml)
    1 GTi 0.2Ω Mesh Coil (Pre-installed)
1 GTi 0.4Ω Mesh Coil (In box)
    1 Extra Glass Tube (6ml)
    2 O-ring
    1 Refilling Silicone Plug
    1 Type-C Cable
1 User Manual & Warranty Card
    1 Safety Manual

Style wise, the mod itself is quite box shaped; it is a box mod after all. It has a long rectangular shape, and the battery cover is on one side, held on by magnets. On one side there’s the inscribed Vaporesso logo and the other has Vaporesso etched in with a circle around it. It’s all quite shiny and I like the design personally. I’ve always like the slightly understated designs of the Gen range. I got the hot pink version and there is another six colours to choose from if you’re not so pink inclined.

The front of the mod has the fire button, the TFT screen beneath that and further down is the adjustment buttons, and then even further down is the lock switch, with the USB Type C port beneath that. You’d think that makes the front a little busy but with the long rectangular shape and the screen splitting the buttons, it doesn’t look busy at all.

The iTank T is quite long and it does make the whole setup look a little unbalanced to me when I look at it up closely, but weight wise it’s all fine. I do, however, feel that the tank will look a lot better on the bigger Gen Max mod and it was probably designed to fit on bigger mods, but I’m also happy to have a shot of the iTank T as the Vaporesso iTanks are the best stock coilers out there in my opinion.

As usual, the Gen SE has a suite of functions. You have the Vaporesso Pulse and F(t) modes, then there’s an Eco mode and these three seem to be the stand ins for a normal VW mode. There’s also a VV mode for voltage people, but there’s no temp control option which is a shame as the TC on Vaporesso mods is usually quite good. There’s also no bypass option for those who like to throw the battery at their coils.

A new one on me is that there is a themes menu. It allows you to choose from a general theme, a football theme, and a UFO theme. This just gives you a little pulsing animation at the bottom when the screen is on then a full screen animation when you take a draw. I can’t find a way to turn the themes off but they’re not annoying or intrusive, so I’ll allow it. Finally, there’s the setting menu that lets you turn off the smart function, change the brightness, reset the puff counter, and return everything to the default setting like you’ve just taken it out of the box again.

In use I turned the mod on, put it to the F(t) setting as that’s my favourite and started to vape on the 0.2ohm GTi coil that’s pre-installed. I obviously filled it with liquid first or that’d be a horrible experience! The 0.2ohm coil is a little too much for my own tastes, working best at 70W and the tank, on fully open airflow, gives you a lovely airy DTL draw, with lots of vapour and an impressive amount of flavour. Closing the airflow down by about a third got it more to my own tastes and helped me enjoy it a lot more.

I moved onto the 0.4ohm GTi coil and that was more my thing. I had it at the max recommended 50W and it was perfect with a third closed airflow, it gave great flavour and a good amount of vapour as well. I really do prefer more sedate DTL vaping and even closing the airflow a bit more gave a lovely RDL draw as well.

Conclusion

The Gen SE is another cracking kit from Vaporesso. It’s got all the modes that most of their releases have nowadays in a nice single battery mod form. I don’t do temp control myself, but I do mourn the loss of it as I know there are a few out there that prefer it, and I like a mod stacked with all possibilities in case I do swing that way one day.

I like the simple design of the mod and the vape that you get from the tank. I do think the tank is still a bit too long for this mod but that’s probably just my preference. I also really like the slide to lock button. It’s becoming more prevalent on mods and that’s a good thing for me.

Pros
  • Nice, simple looking mod
  • Has a few simple function options
  • Lock slider!
Cons
  • Tank looks a bit off on this mod at close range

I was a very militant smoker for many years…why would I stop doing the only thing I had left that I liked doing?  Then I fell into vaping in 2017.  My wife bought a cheap kit off from Amazon that stopped working and I took it to a local vape shop to see what they could do with it.  An hour later and full of new knowledge about watts, ohms, and juice strength, I headed home with a new nautilus mini tank for her and raved to her about the helpful guy in the shop. I must have bored her with all my new found information.  I tried her vape that night, and a week later bought my own kit. Then I found POTV and the amazingly helpful and generous people on it. A month later I was making my own (disgusting) vape juice, and a month after that I was winding coils for my new RDA.  Six years on and I'm much better at making juice, and I now have no money but lots of shiny mods and tanks
