Ferobox 45TC styling and build quality

The Ferobox is a really well put together device. It is constructed from Stainless Steel and Zinc Alloy. It feels very durable and it does have a fair bit of weight to it. The form factor is excellent and it feels comfortable to hold with the device being nicely rounded where you grip it.

The Ferobox has four buttons and they all have a nice feel to them. The main fire button does have a slight bit of rattle but you can certainly live with it. The display is bright and clear and shows Resistance, Voltage and Mode. In addition battery life is also displayed. The device has three modes (technically two), Variable Wattage, Temperature Control Celsius and Temperature Control Fahrenheit which you can easily switch between by pressing the “Mode” button.

The device has an internal 18650 25A 2500mAh Samsung battery which is not meant to be removed. It can be charged via the Micro USB port located on the base of the Ferobox.

Strangely the device has no actual venting ports but since I had no issues with the Ferobox ever overheating I assume it ventilates via the Micro USB port.

The 510 pin is spring-loaded and I had absolutely no issues getting various atomizers to sit flush on this device. The top section of the 510 mounting is designed to be removed and this allows you to attach the included lanyard so you can hang the device around your neck. It might feel a bit heavy but it certainly is a nice option. Who knows a shiny device hanging like a medallion around your neck might even be considered stylish in certain vaping circles!

All in all I was very impressed by the construction and I certainly didn't feel any corners had been cut by the manufacturer.

Ease of use

The Ferobox is extremely straightforward to use. You can quickly swap from Variable Wattage to Temperature Control with a single press of the “Mode” button. No need to go into menus to swap between Stainless Steel, Titanium or Ni200 since providing you are in Temperature Control Mode the device is automatically set up for you.

  • The device can be locked/unlocked by holding down the minus button and the mode button.
  • You can flip the orientation of the display by holding down the plus and minus buttons simultaneously.
  • Please note that the Ferobox off until the battery is completely drained so make sure to lock it when carrying it around with you.

Ferotank

I could not try the included tank that comes with the kit since Grey Haze asked that we give away the review item and we really don’t like to send people half used tanks. Mind you I did have a good look at the tank and it is very well constructed from Stainless Steel and glass.

It does have top filling and the top cap does have knurling which means it is really easy to grip and unscrew. There is absolutely tons of room for filling and you will have no difficulties getting juice into the tank. The tank has two large windows so you can clearly see the juice level. The included drip tip is made from Stainless Steel but features a Delrin insert to help minimise the amount of heat that reaches your lips. It can be easily swapped for other drip tips you own. All of the ones I tried fitted well. There is also a spare drip tip included in the package which is of the wide bore variety, it is also made from Stainless Steel and has a Delrin insert.

The airflow is fully adjustable and seems to cater to both mouth to lung users and direct lung inhalers. I tried just breathing through the tank and it is still quite restrictive when fully opened up.

The tank has a 3ml capacity which is good enough for most typical users. It comes with two coils, a pre-installed 0.5ohm Kanthal coil and a spare 0.2ohm Ni200 coil which means a new user will be able to try both Variable Wattage and Temperature Control modes if they purchase this kit.

Performance

In Variable Wattage Mode this device works well and I came across no problems at all. I tried quite a few of my tanks and drippers and the vape was exactly the same as my other devices.

To test Temperature Control Mode I used my Freemax Scylla which is fitted with a Ni200 coil. After switching modes and setting the Temperature to 240°C I got a very pleasant and warm vape that was very enjoyable and it compared well to other devices I own such as the Sigelei 150W TC and the iPV4s.

While I didn’t come across a Resistance lock function the device does seem pretty accurate at reading the Resistance and I did not get any weird ramp ups or heat spikes. What I did like about this device is how simple it is to switch between modes and since it doesn’t rely on overly cumbersome menus it would be very straightforward for a new user to learn.

What is really nice is that you can use all common wire types in Temperature Control and I found I could happily swap atomizers around that featured Ni200, Titanium and Stainless Steel and each time the device detected the correct Resistance. This feature alone makes the Ferobox highly convenient and it eliminates a massive amount of faffing around.

Battery life is comparable to single 18650 devices since the Ferobox does have a 25A Samsung 18650 battery installed internally. The only difference is that you can’t ever remove this battery. Charging via the included Micro USB cable is simple and takes just over two hours.

Conclusion

The Ferobox is a well-constructed device that feels durable and has a very good form factor. Temperature Control Mode works really well and I was impressed at how good a job it does at detecting the Resistance.  Variable Wattage Mode also functions just like you would expect and is comparable to any other similar device.

Providing you are someone who doesn’t need a great deal of Wattage the Ferobox might be ideal since you it does have its own rechargeable internal battery which means you won’t have to invest in batteries and a charger.

In my opinion this device is a very worthwhile choice since it is very straightforward to use and its typical price of £35-40 won’t exactly break the bank.

The Ferobox can be purchased here from Grey Haze.

Many thanks to Grey Haze who kindly sent this device to Planet of the Vapes for us to review. For your chance to win this product please see our competition.
