Caliburn G3 Lite

It is always exciting when there is a new Caliburn in town, and this time we got to try the Caliburn G3 Lite

Finally, after watching the boys bag all the Caliburns that have come through for review, I get my turn to see what the buzz is about. Patience is a virtue, and good things come to those who wait! I must be some kind of saint as I’ve waited so long to get my grubby little mitts on one. Vape Club very kindly sent in the new Caliburn G3 Lite, so let’s see what all the fuss is about!

First Look and Specs

The Caliburn G3 Lite is a back to basics kit designed to get you vaping as soon as possible, making it a great option for new vapers. With a strong reputation for great flavour and performance, there is still plenty for seasoned pros to enjoy too, especially if you just want a quick and easy kit that you can just fill up and go with.

It comes in a small box which is not much bigger than the device, and it doesn’t need to be either as all you get is the kit with the pod in place all sealed in a plastic tear to open packet, and an instruction book. You don’t get a charging cable, but I am sure most of us have USB-C cables already as it is the same as a standard phone charging lead. If you don’t have one, Vape Club sell them separately. It is a very minimal package, but at this price, you can’t expect all the bells and whistles.

Tearing into the bag, you will find the Caliburn G3 Lite. I really like the design here, there are some really nice details. The pod sits inside a transparent plastic section which means it is rock solid when in place, and you can always see your remaining e-liquid levels. It is a great idea that works brilliantly. The other thing I really like is the textured finish. The sides are silky smooth, but the front and back are finely ribbed for your pleasure! And boy did I find it pleasurable. I am someone who likes to fiddle with things, and as an autistic person, I get a lot of satisfaction from things that feel nice to touch, and this feels so good when you rub a thumb along the front. If you are into sensory pleasures like this, you are going to love this.

Before you can take that first vape, you will need to remove a protective sticker from the base of the pod, which is there to break the contact between the pod and the kit in transit. That is all there is to get things set up, apart from filling up, which is done by snapping off the top cap to access the fill port. It can be a bit tight to get the mouthpiece off, and I was a little concerned about putting too much pressure on it, but I think it does just need a bit of force. Here there is a really interesting system. When you push the nib of your juice bottle in, there is a spring loaded mechanism that moves down to allow the nib in whilst you load up, but as soon as you take the pressure off, it releases and pushes a small plastic pin back into the fill port to plug it up and prevent any leaks. It is very simple but so effective.

It also has a smart mode. Now don’t get too excited, it isn’t that revolutionary, but it will make your vape better as it will automatically detect your pod and will set the power to give you the best vape, whichever pod you choose. As there are no screens or buttons, this is a bit of an essential feature, and it seems to work just fine.

The battery is a good size and should last most people through a work day and then some. It is fairly fast to charge, but not the quickest I've used, so I would definitely recommend picking up a couple of kits so you always have one ready to go. It never hurts to have a spare. It has a small led light that tells you the rough status of your battery with green being 60% and above, blue being between 30% and 60%, and red when you get to 30% or less.

  • Built-In 1200mAh Battery
  • 25W Max Power Output
  • MTL and RDTL Vaping
  • Smart Mode
  • 2ml Refillable pod
  • Top-Filling Pod
  • Built-In Coil
  • Dual Airflow

In Use

So it is filled up and ready to go, right? Well not quite. This is where you choose your airflow. There are no sliders so adjust here, but if you look on the base of the pod, you will see two holes, one round and one oval, and these are what determines your airflow, On the side of the mod, you will see another small hole, and you will want to make sure whichever version you want is on the same side, the round one is a tighter mouth to lung vape and the oval one is slightly airier draw. In reality, I didn’t notice a big difference between the two options, neither are massively loose. I preferred the slightly looser option, but they are very similar.

The kit comes with a 0.9ohm pod, although there are also 0.6ohm and 1.2ohm pods available separately. This is a good choice for the included option though as it is suitable for most 50VG/50PG e-liquids. I ran mine with some bar style salts and it handled them flawlessly.

Now to the near legendary Caliburn flavour. I was worried that the hype and build up would mean I would be left disappointed, but thankfully everything lived up to my expectations. The flavour was detailed and rich, with every element of the e-liquid shining through. The clouds produced were equally satisfying, and I was actually surprised by the amount of vapour this little wonder managed to through out. Was it the best flavour I’ve ever had? No, but it was still more than decent, especially in a kit that only costs £9.99. It is definitely one of the best bang for buck systems you can get for a kit that is simple to use but also manages to provide a top class vape. I can see what all the fuss is about.

So, it is all golden? Not quite. While the taste and vapour were fantastic, I found the flavour began to drop off after four days, although I do absolutely hammer my review kits, so this is probably not representative of real world situations. After a week, there was a distinct burnt taste creeping in. I don’t completely blame the Caliburn though, I was using super sweet bar salts which are always going to give coils a bit of a tough time, and the salts I was using were particularly highly sweetened. But I was a little surprised that the flavour dropped so soon. I think using regular 50/50 e-liquids would be a better path to go down if you value your coil life.

My other complaint is the colour. I was really excited to see “pale purple” as I always go for the purple option. I expected a nice lilac, but when I ripped open the package, I found it was a loud and bright pink. I really hate pink, especially barbie/candyfloss shades. It is only a little thing, but it does make a difference to me.

Final Thoughts

Apart from the misrepresented colour, I really enjoyed using the Caliburn G3 Lite. It is such a simple kit that just works with no effort needed. I like it so much that I am thinking it might be what I need to get my Mum, who is finally ready to give vaping, a couple of them as it does everything a top kit should do without any complications or things to change or adjust. She will be able to just fill it up and use it, so it will be perfect, and hopefully it will help her to quit smoking for good. Wish us both luck!

If you want to try the Caliburn G3 Lite, head over to Vape Club where you can pick it up for £9.99, and you can also choose two free Elfliq e-liquids which make this an absolute steal.

Many thanks to Vape Club for sending the Caliburn G3 Lite over for review.
