Gold Bar Salts

We tried the great Gold Bar Reloaded pod kits recently, and now we have a follow up with the stand alone Gold Bar Salts range

Vape Club sent me over ten of the Gold Bar Salt Juices to try out.

I was a bit wary of taking on this review as I’ve not long done one on the Gold Bar Reload rechargeable battery disposable pods kit and I was thinking this would just be the same review. Then I got thinking. My RDA is a lot different from the coils in the pods, and I’ve also got a few refillable pod kits sitting around so I can try out the flavours on completely different kinds of coils than the ones in the throw away pods. As anyone who has been vaping a while knows, the flavours are usually a bit different in other kinds of tanks, so I decided I’d quite like to see how the Gold Bar flavours compare.

The 10ml bottles come in a normal sized box, and for once they’re not packaged up in a massive box and in a type of envelop like a disposable vape is, ust a covering of plastic that you tear off before opening the bottle. This cuts down on recycling and waste, imo, as a lot of the bar salt style juices have identical packaging to their less environmentally friendly cousins.

You can buy the juice in 10mg or 20mg strengths so they’re also good for those who like their vape a little less filled with nicotine.

As always, these liquids are full of sweetener and cooling additives so you can get the disposable type flavours that so many people enjoy. I’m starting to enjoy them more on occasion myself.

The Flavours

Hawaiian Sunrise

Hawaiian Sunrise - Mixes watermelon with sweet peach and tangy pineapple”

This was my favourite of the pods on the Reload. It leads with a nice, sweet pineapple, and the peach and watermelon blend in well to give a tropical taste that’s just nice. I’m getting a hint of fizz from this one this time around as well, and the cooling goes well with it too.

Oasis

Oasis - Chills a complex medley of mixed berries and exotic fruits with a glacial breeze of icy menthol, for a fruity vape with a frosty finish”

It’s even nicer than the Hawaiian one to me. You get a lovely blast of tropical flavours and a good infusion of berries that mix in with the cooling and sweetener to give you a blast of flavour. I’ll definitely be using this one for the odd toot when I fancy this type of juice.

Watermelon Ice

Watermelon Ice - Freezes the bold and juicy taste of watermelon with a frosty blast of ice on exhale”

There’s a lot of ice in this one, it’s freezing. The flavour itself is a mild but sweet watermelon candy that comes on more in the aftertaste. It’s quite refreshing.

Lemon Ice

Lemon Ice - Provides juicy notes of zesty lemon, followed by frosty ice”

It’s a sweet lemon flavour that’s a little reminiscent of sherbet lemon sweeties this time around. You get a slight pithy bitterness as well that gives it that more of a lemony taste and it goes well with the rest of the flavour profile.

Lemon Lime

Lemon Lime - Balances tangy lemon with zingy lime in each puff”

Again, it has the sherbet like tang in the lemon, and the lime just adds to that to give a ping of zing to it as well. Sweetie like again, but a very nice flavour.

Strawberry, Guava Kiwi

Strawberry Guava Kiwi - Complements the sweetness of strawberry with exotic guava notes, while a tart kiwi taste adds a touch of tang”

The earthy guava mixes in with the super sweet strawberry and the end kick of kiwi to make this a decent flavour. It’s very sweet and there’s lots of cold added to this strong flavour. It’s nice.

Blueberry Ice

Blueberry Ice - Provides bold blueberry notes on inhale, followed by cool ice on exhale”

I’d said in my previous review that this was quite a simple blueberry, but I’m getting different vibes from it this time. It is a sweet blueberry but has a touch of perfume to it that doesn’t put me off for a change. The ice helps to temper the aftertaste, and the more I vaped, it the nicer it got.

Blue Raspberry

Blue Raspberry - Delivers juicy, yet sharp notes of blue raspberry”

I’m getting a bit more of a raspberry taste than I did off the Reload pods in this one, and it’s better for it. It’s a nice blue raspberry that doesn’t have the bubblegum a lot of them have, and I’m really enjoying it.

Summer Berries

Summer Berries - Features sweet, ripe notes of a berry medley”

I’d said previously that I couldn’t discern the berries, but I’m definitely tasting blueberry, cranberry and at least raspberry this time around, along with others in the background. The sweetness of this is decent and it is pretty cold, like the rest of the range.

Banana Ice

Banana Ice - Cools ripe and creamy banana on exhale with ice”

I’m getting a ripe banana with a creamy taste to it as well. Not sweetie like at all, but the sweetener brings the flavour out even more. Yuk, I hate bananas. It is a good banana flavour though, or so I’m told…

Conclusion

These Gold Bar Salts all seem to have just that little bit more depth to them when freed from the constraints of the proprietary pods that they’ve been shackled to up until now. I wrapped up a 0.7ohm Ni80 coil for my RDA, and it really brought out a bit more flavour, as well as a bit more vapour that you get from the pre-filled pods. It was similar with some of the re-fillable pods I have for pod systems. Using 0.8ohm or 0.6ohm mesh coils lets the flavour sing just that little bit more than the cheaper disposable coils.

Gold Bar do make very strong, sweet, and cold flavours, so it’s easy to see why so many enjoy them, they’re popular for a reason. I personally prefer my more subtle DIY mixes, but I do keep a couple of pods around to fill with bar salt style juices for a blast of that sweet, cold goodness now and again, especially when I’m having a pint or two.

Thanks again to Vape Club for sending the Gold Bar Salts over for me to try out. You can buy the 10ml bottles for £2.99 each or 4 for £10 on their site.

Pros
  • Flavour a touch better than the disposables if using a better coil
  • Strong flavours
  • Cheap for the amount
Cons
  • Still a bit sweet for me but preferences and that

I was a very militant smoker for many years…why would I stop doing the only thing I had left that I liked doing?  Then I fell into vaping in 2017.  My wife bought a cheap kit off from Amazon that stopped working and I took it to a local vape shop to see what they could do with it.  An hour later and full of new knowledge about watts, ohms, and juice strength, I headed home with a new nautilus mini tank for her and raved to her about the helpful guy in the shop. I must have bored her with all my new found information.  I tried her vape that night, and a week later bought my own kit. Then I found POTV and the amazingly helpful and generous people on it. A month later I was making my own (disgusting) vape juice, and a month after that I was winding coils for my new RDA.  Six years on and I'm much better at making juice, and I now have no money but lots of shiny mods and tanks
