This is a review that makes me happy as Totally Wicked got me on my personal smokefree journey all the way back in 2011. One of my customers had a cigalike kit, the proper old ones that looked like a plastic cigarette and was generally a bit rubbish, but they were telling me about this now gadget they were trying to see if it would help them give up smoking where conventional quit aids had failed, and I was deeply intrigued. so when I got home, I did a bit of Google-fu and found myself on the Totally Wicked website ordering a basic pen kit (the Titan) along with a bottle of menthol and another of cherry flavoured e-liquid, and the rest, as they say, is history! So to say I owe so much to Totally Wicked, well that doesn’t even scratch the surface of the extent of my gratitude, and when I was asked if I’d like to review their new VLTZ X-Spin 4 in 1 kit, well I was more than happy to see how far we’ve both come. But please don’t think my personal history will colour this review in any way, I won’t let any sentimentality colour my opinion!

We have seen quite a few of these next generation, rechargeable, prefilled pod kits which replicate the taste and strength of disposables recently, and they are usually pretty decent, providing all the flavour, but with less waste as the battery can be charged and you are only throwing out the empty cartridges. As well as having a longer user life than a disposable, with the VLTZ X-Spin, you are also getting four times the flavour as they use individual e-liquid pods which contain 2ml of juice in each one, so if, like me, you get quickly bored sticking to just one flavour, these are definitely the way to go. Now most other 4 in 1s come with curated mixed flavour packs, which sounds like a good idea, but I often find there is at least one cartridge that I wouldn’t choose to vape if I wasn’t doing a review, but with the VLTZ X-Spin, you buy the flavours separately in packs of two, so you can customise your own flavour selection. To me, this is a much better way of doing things, as it adds a further layer of flexibility.

The Hardware

But before we get into the flavours, let’s take a look at the hardware. The VLTZ X-Spin is a fairly chucky boy, but it needs to be to hold the amount of juice you get. To be fair, I’ve tried some even larger ones, and this is still very comfortable to hold, even with my tiny girly hands. You might want to be mindful of carrying it around in your front jean pocket though, placement will be paramount unless you are going to the Spinal Tap cucumber look (if you know, you know, if not, do yourself a favour and google it!). Joking aside though, it manages to balance weight, size and capacity well and still also manages to feel reassuringly solid and well made. The balance was something I really noticed, it never felt top or bottom heavy, it is just instinctively comfortable.

The round mouthpiece is centrally mounted and feels smaller than it looks, making it very comfortable to use. Looking down the hole, you can see the opening splits into four, one for each flavour, and it keeps things well separated. On the bottom, you will find a battery venting hole, essential for safe vaping, and the USB-C charging port. The cable isn’t included as standard, and most of us will have one knocking around, but if you need one, you can add it to your order free of charge, which is really generous of Totally Wicked. The base is also flat so when you are giving it a rest, it will stand up in the side, but you will need to put it on its side to charge.

When you first open the box, the body and the cap are in separate bags, so it is all ready to be filled with your cartridges. This is very easy, you just pop them out of the foil sealed packs, remove the orange rubber top and bottom caps, and drop them into any of the four compartments, then line the cap up (there are two small indentations that fit together when you have it correct), and push it all together. The top half of the kit is made from a dark clear plastic, and each pod has the flavour written along the side, so once in place, you can easily see which one is which. You can also see how much juice you have left so you don’t need for a nasty dry hit to let you know you are out. As for selecting which juice you wish to vape, well that is where the spin comes in! You simply hold the body, and spin the top, stopping where you want to. Each section snaps into place with a firm click so you know it is correctly aligned, and along the middle, there is a light above the VLTZ logo to confirm which flavour is active. It is a very smooth system which is simple and logical to use.

When it is time to replace a flavour, you need to remove the top cap, and this was the only area that I found was a little fiddly as the cap fits very snuggly and it is a bit tricky to free, especially the first time you need to do it. It is tight, but it gets easier with time. I found wrapping my thumb around the mouthpiece and levering it off to one side seemed to work best, but if you have any dexterity issues, you may struggle with this.

The internal battery is 600mAh which is similar to most disposables and should last roughly for 2ml or one whole cartridge, and whilst the 0.7A charging isn’t going to break any speed records, your down time shouldn’t be too long.

This is purely an auto draw device, there are no buttons to press, and for me, it worked perfectly every time. There is also no airflow options or adjustments, but this isn’t really necessary in a kit like this. The draw is a loose mouth to lung, and it is set to work perfectly with the auto draw system.

The Flavours

So far, the VLTZ X-Spin comes with the choice of twelve flavours, although I only got eleven to play with, but from what I tasted, the missing Kiwi Passion Guava should be great if that is your sort of flavour. Luckily for me, it isn’t a flavour that particularly excites me so winner winner!

Strawberry Watermelon

The strawberry is a sweeter berry, not even a jam sweetness but a pure sugar hit. The watermelon creeps up underneath and adds an almost earthy, slightly bitter note which is quite welcome after the super sweet first blast. There is also an element of ice which adds texture and breeches the gap between the two flavours. For me, it is a bit too sweet, but if you are weaning off of disposables, this is a great place to start.

Blueberry Splash

Again, this is a very sweet, disposable style blueberry, but it manages to be a bit juicier and more defined. It has a depth and a richness, and is verging on American grape without the heaviness. Again, there is a slightly iced hint which is just the right amount to leave you feeling clean and refreshed. I like this one a lot.

Triple Mango

This is one of those mangos that tries to cover the whole gamut of flavours with varying degrees of success. This may sound like I am being a little critical, but in this case, it works really well as the further reaches have been rounded off and you are left with a sweet, smooth flavour with tons of tropical juice. The ice is the mildest hint, just enough to break thinks up so you can puff as long as you want without getting tongue blind.

Pineapple Ice

This is a really rich, full bodied pineapple which builds in intensity the longer you puff. It is so nice. The ice is also a bit of a creeper, at first you don’t really notice it much, but as the flavour develops, so does the chill. It is a clever mix and for me, is an easy all day vape.

Watermelon Ice

Fresh, clean, and quite subtle, although this does mean that you can taste the artificial sweetener a lot clearer, so if you are sensitive to sweeteners, like I am, this is probably one to avoid. But if you like a simple but refreshing vape, it might suit you better.

Blue Razz Blackberry

I really like this mix, you get that classic blue raspberry base flavour, but then you also get a thick layer of blackberry which just gives it a unique twist by upping the richness and adding a slightly fragrant flavour on top. Again, that signature light ice is there but it works in symmetry with the berry flavours. A great twist on a classic flavour.

Honeydew Melon

This is another really good flavour, and it is unmistakable as a honeydew rather than being a generic sweet melon. It is still light, but also manages to have a deep syrupy flavour and the aftertaste builds well. It tastes like the sweetest, fleshiest bits of a slice of melon, just before you get to the more bitter bit next to the skin.

Pineapple Colada

This was a much more balances and subtle flavour than I was expecting. Coconut can be quite heavy, but this is just the right amount, and the pineapple just melds with it to make a single cohesive flavour. You can taste both clearly, but the mixing is perfect, so they blend perfectly too. It is very sweet though, and I don’t think I could vape it all day. This makes it a great flavour to add to the VTLZ X-spin as it is perfect to add a real variety to your daily vaping.

Blueberry Sour Raspberry

I expected this one to be stronger as I’ve had this combination before and it tends to be quite heavy, but this is a lighter mix which works really well. Because it is lighter, it really means you can taste the different elements clearly. I particularly like the raspberry as it is one of those flavours that lingers, and the more it sticks around, the more you get out of it. It covers a good range of flavour notes too, you get the sweet, the sour, the rich, the fresh, and the depth, all in one easy to vape flavour.

Pineapple Orange

I really like pineapple, and I really like citrus flavours, so I had high hopes. Sadly, it didn’t quite deliver. It is really sweet, so much so that it knocks out the fruity flavours. Add in the ice, which is slightly too strong for the recipe, and all in all it just doesn’t quite add up. Twist!

Sour Apple

Back on track for the final flavour, it is sour, and it is apple, so it really does what it says on the box. It is a little bit more on a candy apple flavour, but the sour note stops it from being too sweet, and it is a really pleasant sour which adds character rather than making your cheeks feel tense. It is a fun flavour to add to your mix.

Final Thoughts

The VLTZ X-Spin is a great addition to the multiple flavour, prefilled pod market. It is easy to load and use, it is comfortable to hold, and most importantly, it tastes really good. Sure, there were a couple of flavours that didn’t quite hit the mark for me, but there were far more hits than misses, and as you can pick your own flavours, you are free to pick the ones that you like.

But what if you can’t choose, or you like to have a selection prechosen for you? Well keep your eyes peeled, as Stephen may well have just what you are looking for coming up soon!

If you would like to try the VLTZ X-Spin for yourself, head over to Totally Wicked. The Kit is just £12.99, and you can pick two packs of pods to get you started. Extra packs of pods will set you back just £5.99, and for this you get two cartridges.

Many thanks to Totally Wicked for sending in the VLTZ X-spin for review, and an extra personal thank you for sending me down this vaping rabbit hole in the first place!

A few days later she somehow found herself on the moderating team and is still not really sure how that happened. Even stranger, she slowly worked her way up to admin and now helps behind the scenes, liasing with vendors and coordinating social media but she can still be found making smutty comments on the forum.
