Joyetech eGo NexO Pod Kit

Joyetech are back in the game with a great user friendly kit in the shape of the new eGo NexO kit

Share on:

Joyetech are back with another simple to use pod kit, and this always makes me happy as they have been around pretty much since the start of the modern vaping era, and I am sure they are responsible for more people giving up smoking back in the day than just about any other brand. But more recently they have had their share of ups and downs so hopefully this will be a bit of a return to form for them. TECC very kindly sent us the Joyetech eGo NexO kit to try out, so let’s dive in and find out!

Unboxing and First Impressions

The Joyetech eGo NexO is a simple and affordable kit designed to get you started as easily as possible, and the packaging reflects that. You get a basic cardboard box, which is small and compact and is a far cry from a lot of kits that seem to go overboard in the presentation department. This is very straightforward, and it shows that they are dispensing with the fanfares and are getting down to business. It still manages to let you know everything you need to know about the contents, but you won’t be wasting time marvelling at the detail. Inside you will find the kit fully assembled sealed in a tear to open plastic wrapper, along with a rather nice USB charging cable, and that is pretty much it. This is a cheap kit, but I would have liked to have seen an extra coil included, especially as there are three coil options available. The 0.8ohm included one is a good middle ground though, and would be my personal coil of choice, especially if you are going to use 50/50 e-liquids of nic salts, which is what this kit is really aimed for.

The first thing that really grabbed my attention is the overall finish of the main body. There are four colour options to choose from, and TECC sent the red variant for the review, and it looks fantastic. The red is deep and lush at the bottom, and then it graduates to a very solid silver finish towards the top, and the transition is seamless. For such an affordable kit, I was pretty blow away by the initial looks. The way the window of the pod fits and then returns to the silver also looks super smooth, it almost looks like an all in one system as everything blends so well. To top things off, the drip tip/mouthpiece is the same transparent colour as the tank section which helps to bring everything together. I do have a bit of a thing for clear drip tips, they always look cool in my humble opinion.

Everything else is pretty understated with a fire button on one side and the charging port on the other, so you can charge the kit whilst keeping it upright. The button is a simple black affair with a satisfying click, and around it is a light ring which illuminates when you fire the device and also doubles as the battery indicator (green – 70% and above, blue – 70% to 30%, and red – 30% and below). Everything is kept simple, and I think the Joyetech eGo NexO is all the better for it. This is a button activated kit only, no auto-draw here, which is quite unusual in this day and age.

Finally, there is the impressive battery. It uses an integrated 1500mAh, and because there is no screen or settings to mess around with, all that power is used purely for vaping. I vape a lot at the best of times, and when I am reviewing a kit, I really do hammer things, so I was really impressed to get nearly two full days before I needed to plug things in. A lot of kits advertise long battery life, but few deliver like the eGo NexO did.

Setting Up and In Use

Before you can do anything, you will need to remove the sticker that stops the coil for touching the body, it peels of easily enough, and then you can put the pod back in place. It is held in place with two fairly light magnets, and it will only line up one way, so you can feel when it is in place. I did find there was a bit of play here though, the pod feels a little loose, and if you pull it from your pocket, you need to hold the body or you will find you just pull the pod out. It doesn’t affect the performance, but it is a bit of a niggle, especially as the finish of everything else is such high quality.

I really like the filling system; it is one or the most sensible systems I have come across. The airflow control ring not only tightens the draw, but if you fully rotate it to the left, you will find the tab to open the fill port. Pull it open, squeeze in your 2ml of e-liquid, smooth the tab back down and then twist the airflow ring back round. This means you get a good seal every time, and it also keeps things looking sleek and tidy. As the airflow ring is above the window section, it also means it is a semi top fill, which I find tends to be easier and less messy. It really is a great system, tidy and practical.

Now we are filled and ready to go, it is vape time! The airflow adjustment looks quite big, but in reality, it doesn’t make a massive difference unless you have it either fully open or completely closed, you still get a fairly loose mouth to lung vape. I prefer things a little tighter, but that is purely my user preference. But the flavour is more important, and with the eGo EN 0.8ohm coil, it was thick and full, with an impressive amount of detail. It is what I call a juicy vape, you know, when you take a pull, exhale, and then find yourself licking your lips as the vapour is so tasty. The amount of vapour was pretty decent too, I was able to blow some pretty impressive clouds considering what sort of kit this is.

Coil life was fairly good, but not the best. I got about four days before the flavour started to sour a bit, but that was with some really sweet e-liquids and some intensive vape sessions to really see how far I could push the kit. The EN coils are cheap though at £11.99 for five coils, and they are easy to change, you simply remove the pod and use your nails to pull out the old one, then slide a new one in making sure you line up the flat side and the round side. You will easily know when you have got it right as it will fit in flush.

I also left the kit standing for a few days to test whether it would leak, and after that time, I am happy to say the pod recess was fresh and dry. The only thing that changed was that the first few puffs were a little gurgly, but that soon cleared, so I was happy with that. I always worry when you find a pool of juice in the pod recess in case it gets into the electronics, but the eGo NexO held up well.

Final Thoughts

For a very basic, user friendly pen style vape kit, the Joyetech eGo NexO is a very solid choice. It definitely scores highly in the looks and design department, and the flavour is superb. I wasn’t so keen on how loosely the pod fits and was slightly concerned that I might lose it, although you can buy replacement pods so it wouldn’t be the end of the world. But even with a few niggles, this is a very solid choice if you are looking for a simple workhorse kit that just does what it needs to do with no fuss.

If you think the Joyetech eGo NexO is the kit for you, head over to our good friends at TECC who can kit you out with everything you need. The main kit is just £19.99, but you should also pick up a pack of EN coils to keep you going. FInally if you need spare pods, TECC have got you covered.

Many thanks to TECC for sending over the Joyetech eGo NexO kit in for review.
