Voopoo Argus A Kit

VOOPOO aim for pod domination with the new Argus A kit

Share on:

VOOPOO continues their charge into the pod mod sector with their latest Argus A kit. This uses the excellent Argus Pods we’ve all seen before, but comes in a new form factor with a dual screen display.

Specifications

  • 70 x 44 x 22mm
  • Dual screen layout
  • 5~30 watt output
  • 1100 mAh internal battery
  • USB-C charging
  • compatible with full range of Argus pods

The VOOPOO Argus A comes in eight stylish colours, and VOOPOO sent over the “Pearl white” variant for review. Inside the compact box you’ll find the Argus A, two Argus Pods, a lanyard, a USB-C charge cable, and some paperwork.

The Argus A sports a completely new form factor from previous entries in the Argus pod family, looking for all intents and purposes like a mini dual battery box mod. Up front there’s a rather unique dual screen control panel, whilst on the back we have a bold Argus logo, the stickers on the logo used to come away on earlier Argus pods but this seems to have been solved with more recent releases and I’ve had no issues so far here.

The new form factor makes this very comfortable to use, and despite my initial misgivings about its chunky appearance, it’s not actually that much bigger than something like the Argus P2 which I still use. The pearl white paint job sets it off nicely, and one of my colleagues at work even commented on how nice the pearlescent finish was.

On one side we have the standard Argus airflow control and a lanyard slot. The airflow could have been placed a little better as I do occasionally find myself blocking it with a finger, but this is quickly remedied by shifting my grip slightly.

On the other side there’s a power button, an on/off switch, and the USB-C charge port. The on/off switch speaks for itself and means that you don’t need to faff around in multiple layers of menus to turn the Argus A off, I rarely use this myself but it’s reassuring to know that it’s there.

The Argus A sports an auto draw function which VOOPOO have long since perfected on these pod kits, but you can also use the button to fire if you wish. The button can also be used to turn the dual displays on/off with two clicks, change the wattage with three clicks, or enter a deeper menu system with five clicks.

One of the big draws to this new form factor is the large segmented display panel which shows all sorts of fancy animations in use and includes a rather nifty vaping stats tracker hidden in the sub menu. Whilst it’s all very fancy, the screen VOOPOO has chosen is incredibly dim, it’s fine for indoor use but virtually useless outside, and I came away a touch disappointed on that front so I’ve mainly been using the Argus A with the screen off.

The Argus A has an internal 1100 mAh battery and in my charge test this hit a peak charge rate of 1.63 Amps with a recorded capacity of 914 mAh reached in 36 minutes. The charge cycle is a little weird as it will periodically drop to zero amps and then wake up after a second or two to continue charging. After the 36 minutes it would repeat this behaviour but in reverse, mainly sitting at zero amps and then waking up periodically to charge for a few seconds so I left it charging overnight once and after 12 hours I had a recorded charging time of “38 minutes” (i.e. the time it had spent over zero amps in that 12 hour period) and a total capacity closer to the quoted 1100 mAh.

Up top there’s the recess for the Argus Pod with all the usual connections and airflow ports. This is actually slightly more recessed into the top than other Argus pod kits, and one downside of this design decision is that the side fill port on the pod is no longer accessible, so you’ll need to remove the pod for filling.

The Argus A is compatible with the full range of Argus Pods, and you get the usual two pods included in the box including my favourite 0.7 ohm pod. These are some of the best pods on the market with class leading flavour, great coil life, and a leak free experience.

Conclusion

Another good entry in the Argus lineup, the VOOPOO Argus A performs just as well as any of the other Argus pod kits and adds the unique dual screen display. This is only slightly let down by the somewhat dull screen which I found myself turning off most of the time anyway.

Many thanks to VOOPOO for sending the Argus A kit over for review.

SCORE: 7/10

  • Compatible with full range of Argus pods

I was a twenty a day smoker for 25 years and like most smokers I was always going to quit "next week". Having hit my mid forties and having the usual smokers cough and difficulty with anything more than moderate exercise it was obviously time to give up the cancer sticks. I bought my first e-cigarette in 2013 when they were expensive, difficult to find and quite frankly... crap. I used it for about a week then went back to the roll ups, mark up another failed quit attempt. The fact that I had just changed jobs and was under quite a lot of stress probably didn't help. Move on to 2016 and whilst I was browsing eBay I noticed that one of the suggested items that would occasionally pop up was for a cheap e-cigarette. It looked similar to the one I'd bought 3 years earlier but it was only £5 (about 8 times cheaper than before) so I decided to give it another go on a whim. Once the kit arrived I managed to gradually replace the cigarettes with my new kit over a two month period and got into watching YouTube reviews for newer kit. My cheap and cheerful kit was replaced by a more upmarket affair, and being a noob I made a mistake once it arrived... I put in the supplied direct lung coil, this was of course a complete revelation and I haven't touched a cigarette since. Oh and I no longer spend the first five minutes of every day having a coughing fit either.
