UWELL Havok R Pod Kit

Stephen goes a little mad for the mayhem when he got to try out the UWELL Havok R pod kit

The Electronic Cigarette Company (TECC) sent me the UWELL Havok R pod kit to try out for you all.

UWELL have been around for quite a bit now and have released some classic vape products over the years. I remember the original Crown stock coil tanks, those were really good, and then their Valaryian range, that were also good for a bit of cloud as well. They also make the iconic Caliburn range of pod kits, so beloved of the Facebook and Reddit massive. Hell, a lot of people love the Caliburn range, and they are consistent with the quality, but it’s more a case of which one you go for as there are loads of them nowadays.

The Havok R is a pod kit with a slight difference in that the pod is inserted in the bottom of the kit instead of the top. This is to mitigate leakage and it does that well. It has a 950mAh internal battery in it, with 3 amp charging, which they claim will charge up in 25 minutes. The pods are 0.6ohm with 2 ml capacity and they output at around 22W.

In the box you get:

  • 1 Havok R Device
  • 2 Havok R Cartridges
  • 1 510 Flat Drip Tip
  • 1 510 Rounded Drip Tip
  • 1 User Manual

To me it looks a bit like a tiny AIO device, even though it definitely isn’t. It’s rectangular, compact and my one has a nice design on it. There are also around eight other designs to choose from, four being quite funky and the other four a bit more traditional looking. TECC have three to choose from at the moment.

There’s the pod that slots in the bottom, a nice window to see the juice level on the front, and an LED light to show how much power you have. It’s the usual of green for 60% plus, blue for 60-30%, and red for 30% and below. Other than that, you have the USB Type C slot and not much more to see. In the box you get a rounded 510 drip tip if you don’t like the flat one that’s installed when you open the box, and that is a nice touch. I do prefer the rounded one personally.

The pods themselves seem to be very sturdy and well made, but with the TPD version you can see the plastic inserts that restrict the capacity and that just makes me want the higher capacity ones. The pods fit in with magnets, how do they work??? It’s quite a solid fit and it is a good job from UWELL as I’d imagine it was quite tricky to figure out how to get the pods to slot in without some kind of plastic catch. They’ve managed it though, and everything slots in very smoothly.

In use, it’s such a simple kit. Fill the pod with liquid, slot it in, and vape. That’s it. Charge it when needed, fill it when needed, and that is all you have to do apart from use the blooming thing. TECC’s info suggests that it’s for RDL and MTL and they’re not wrong, but I do prefer to use it as a MTL device myself as the RDL is nice, but that loose MTL draw is just lovely. And I do love a loose MTL draw, that’s my thing and the Havok R does it brilliantly.

With the 0.6ohm coil in the pod, you get a lovely plume of vapour, and the flavour is decent as well. I do worry that the extra gap between the pod and the mouthpiece dulls the flavour a little bit, but there’s a small round tube that connects them and forces the vapour up well so it’s not taking that much away, if anything at all. I also do think that there could be scope for other resistance pods, as it seems all you can get is the 0.6ohm pod. A 0.8ohm option would be lovely for that loose MTL draw, but I do also understand that the Havok R might just be optimal with the 0.6ohm one that they’ve gone for.

Final Thoughts

If you like a loose MTL and a fairly restricted lung draw (as I do), then this is a lovely simple pod kit. The idea to pop the pod in the bottom of the kit is a novel one and doesn’t really take away anything that a normal pod kit would give you as well. It really does stop any leakage or condensation so that is a massive bonus there as I’m terrible for leaving pod kits to rot for a day or two before taking them out in the car, and I hate having to shove kitchen roll or cotton in the gap to soak up the condensation or leakage.

While it is a little restrictive in only having one resistance of pod available, what is there does the job brilliantly and hits all the notes I would want from a pod kit personally. The blurb states that 50/50 juice is perfect for the coil, but I’ve found 70/30 works just as well, with no singeing of the cotton when you take a nice big draw RDL style.

Many thanks to TECC for sending the UWELL Havok R kit in for review.

Pros
  • No leaks, like none at all!
  • Replaceable drip tip/mouthpiece
  • Nice sturdy pods
Cons
  • Only one resistance of pod available
  • Those who like a nice tight MTL are not catered for here

I was a very militant smoker for many years…why would I stop doing the only thing I had left that I liked doing?  Then I fell into vaping in 2017.  My wife bought a cheap kit off from Amazon that stopped working and I took it to a local vape shop to see what they could do with it.  An hour later and full of new knowledge about watts, ohms, and juice strength, I headed home with a new nautilus mini tank for her and raved to her about the helpful guy in the shop. I must have bored her with all my new found information.  I tried her vape that night, and a week later bought my own kit. Then I found POTV and the amazingly helpful and generous people on it. A month later I was making my own (disgusting) vape juice, and a month after that I was winding coils for my new RDA.  Six years on and I'm much better at making juice, and I now have no money but lots of shiny mods and tanks
