Sky Hunter Slim Twist Kit

Vape Club sent us over the Sky Hunter Slim Twist kit along with a load of flavours, a great alternative to disposable vapes

Share on:

A few weeks back, we reviewed a big brand disposable which comes with four different flavours in one device, I loved the concept but there was a big problem. The device came with a pretty large battery and was single use which is the last thing we should be looking at whilst the eyes of the world have disposable vapes firmly in their sights. It was such a shame as I love the concept, who wouldn’t love the ability to seamlessly jump between flavours in one easy to use kit. Well it seems I’m not the only one who saw the potential here, enter the Sky Hunter Twist Slim pod kit.

Vape Club very kindly sent us over the Sky Hunter Twist Slim kit, along with a nice bundle of extra flavour pods to try out. I’ve always been a big fan of Vape Club and have personally shopped with them many times as they have a superb selection, very competitive process, and super reliable next day shipping even if you are late in the day getting your order in. They also seem to be really leading the way when it comes to the selection of disposable vape replacement products they are stocking, they are really leading the way when it comes to helping vapers switch to more sustainable kits, something that should be applauded. Whilst disposable vapes are still perfectly legal, we all know the ban is coming, so it just makes sense to find alternatives sooner rather than later.

First impressions

I need to get something off my chest before we get stuck in. I adore the name of this brand, I may just be a bit odd here, but I am getting immense pleasure from putting on my best movie announcer voice and letting out a “behold the Sky Hunter! “ or “enter the Sky Hunter!”. Go on, try it and tell me it doesn’t feel good. I do openly admit that I am very easily pleased, but I can’t be the only one who gets a buzz from this.

Back on track now though, the Sky Hunter Twist Slim pod kit is a fairly chunky tube shaped kit which can take four separate prefilled flavour pods and also has a built in, rechargeable 650mAh battery. The base kit comes with four different flavours by default, but you can then pick and choose new cartridges from the pretty extensive selection. Most of the flavours are fan favourites if you are coming from regular disposables, although there are a couple of more unique cartridges available if you want to branch out a bit. Any vaper will tell you how important flavour is to the vaping experience, so having the ability to mix and match is a big plus.

The starter kit comes with everything you need, you get the device itself, four cartridges, a USB-C charging cable, and a clear and concise user manual. There is even plenty of charge from the get-go so you can set everything up and vape as soon as possible.

The main kit comes in a tear to open sealed bag, the same as disposable vapes come in, and the cartridges are also foil sealed for freshness and hygiene. Setting it up is quick and easy too, remove the outer cage/sleeve, pop out your cartridges, slide them into the empty slots, and line the cage up with the grooves on the main device and push it into place…job done. The cartridges can go in any order too, there is no fixed way to arrange things. The outer cage has windowed cut-outs which line up to show the flavour printed on each cartridge so you can easily see which one in currently in use.

To select a flavour, you just twist the cage round until the one you want lines up with the arrow printed on the main body. As it turns, you will feel some soft clicks, these mini waypoints mean that there is no error or guesswork when lining things up, you will be able to do it perfectly and effortlessly every time. Considering this is a budget friendly kit, it actually feels really solid and is surprisingly nice to use.

The Sky Hunter Twist Slim is available in five colour variants, black, navy, pink, red scarlet, and silver titanium. I was sent the black, and before I opened it, I was a little disappointed as black is a bit boring. I soon changed my tune after I opened it though as it is actually a black sparkle which looks great especially in the rare moment when the rain stops and the sun comes out, the natural rays really make this thing pop.

The 650mAh battery is slightly larger than standard disposables but not by enough to be noticeable in daily use. When you need to charge, the USB-C port is on the base. There is a small LED light there too, but you can only see it if you tip the Sky Hunter upside down, and you also need to be quite quick as it doesn’t stay illuminated for long. Personally I just relied on my tastebuds to let me know when to plug it back in, there is a very slight drop in performance as the battery drains so it is a pretty reliable method.

The Flavours

At the moment, there are twenty one different flavours to choose from, and Vape Club sent over five packs. The base kit comes with a further four flavours to get you started, so we have plenty to check out. Each pod pack contains two refills, so it is pretty decent value.

Crazy Blue

Crazy Blue Sky Hunter Twist Slim pods feature a fusion of berry flavours. Sweet blueberry and tart raspberry combine before a juicy-tasting medley of dark mixed berries enters the mix”

This is a strong general mixed berry lead by a pretty bold blueberry. It is quite rich and is very sweet, but thankfully there is a good hit of ice to balance things out. You can tell it is aimed at disposable vape fans, it may be a bit too sweet for old school vapers, but they aren’t the target market here and I think it will suit its intended buyers very well.

Blueberry Sour Raspberry

Blueberry Sour Raspberry Sky Hunter Twist Slim pods fuses two bold berry flavours. Sweet and juicy blueberry notes are balanced by a sour raspberry that adds a tanginess to each puff”

It seems a bit of a strange choice to have both this and the previous flavour in the base kit as they are pretty similar, it would have made more sense to go for something completely different. Saying that, in reality, it is quite different, it is a much sharper flavour with quite a kick. The sour raspberry is much more present, and the ice feels like it has been cranked up a bit. Out of the two, I slightly preferred this one as there is more sensations going on, but they are both good in different ways. Sweeter fans will prefer the Crazy Blue, I liked the extra tang in this one.

Pink Lemonade

Pink Lemonade Sky Hunter Twist Slim pods take inspiration from the popular sparkling beverage. Juicy notes of mixed red berries are interlaced into a sugary yet zesty lemonade flavour”

I love the lemon here, it starts off as a sharp tang but over time it mellows and the citrus taste develops, it starts as one thing and morphs into something different. The sweet berries are also welcome as it could be quite sour without them. It is a fun flavour, and definitely works to liven up your tastebuds.

Kiwi Passionfruit Guava

Kiwi Passion Guava Sky Hunter Twist Slim pods blend layers of sweet passionfruit and guava with juicy-tasting kiwi, creating an exotic taste from inhale to exhale”

This is usually a flavour which I find to be a bit meh, but I really like this version. It is familiar enough if you are used to the standard disposable flavour, but the fruits are just a bit more defined, and you can easily separate each fruit in the mix. It is a great balance of exotic, earthy, and refreshing with enough ice to enhance each individual flavour.

Fizzy Cherry

Fizzy Cherry Sky Hunter Twist Slim pods are inspired by the popular sparkling beverage. Dark and juicy cherry notes are met by an equally sweet, fizzy flavour from soda, recreating the taste of the classic drink”

I’m not a fan of this one, it is a very artificial cherry, and it has a harsh chemical taste. It is a shame as it was the one I was most looking forward to. The fizzy effect is pretty decent, and it does have a refreshing feel to it, but the base flavour lets the good bits down.

Lemon and Lime

Lemon & Lime Sky Hunter Twist Slim pods use two citrus fruits to create a punchy vape. From your first puff, you’ll taste the juicy notes of zingy lime and a zesty lemon flavour”

It is a bit annoying that the description contains both “zingy” and “zesty” as I would have happily used both of these to describe this one. It is very sharp, but pleasantly so. It is packed with a citrus punch on steroids, super strong but it works! I couldn’t vape it for long on its own, but that is the beauty of the Sky Hunter and as a refresher between sweet flavours, it works incredibly well.

Icy Pineapple

“Icy Pineapple Sky Hunter Twist Slim pods deliver the exotic notes of a single tropical fruit, along with a cool finish. A tangy pineapple delivers a juicy taste with every inhale, followed by a frosty ice exhale”

It’s definitely an icy pineapple! The ice hits hard and fast and unusually it is the first thing you get with the pineapple coming up behind. It is quite a concentrated flavour which reminds me of the dried pineapple I’ve been addicted to recently. It isn’t the juiciest one I’ve tried, and it certainly isn’t the sweetest, but it is a different take on an old favourite.

Strawberry Watermelon

Strawberry Watermelon Sky Hunter Twist Slim pods combine both garden and tropical fruit notes. A fusion of strawberry and watermelon will provide sweet, crisp, and juicy flavour in every puff”

This is another one that just didn’t work for me, but that is the fun of flavour reviews. The watermelon is light and fragrant, but the strawberry was a bit too earthy when a sweeter one would have worked better. The ice is a little overloaded too but maybe that isn’t a bad thing as it does smooth off some of the rougher edges.

Blueberry Raspberry Lemonade

Blueberry Raspberry Sky Hunter Twist Slim pods feature a distinct, yet simple fusion of two berries. A bold blueberry provides the sweet, whilst a tart raspberry adds the sour, leaving you with a balanced vape”

Finishing on a bit of a high, this is a good version of the flavour with each element working well individually. Bringing them all together turns it into a really strong tasty vape. I can see why Sky Hunter have used blueberry in several flavours as it seems to be one they do really well. This mix is very fruity and also very sweet, not as tart as I thought it would be with the sour raspberry and sharper lemonade. It is another disposable mainstay, and I think this one will get its fair share of new fans.

Final Thoughts

I already love the concept of having four individual flavours in one device, I have a short attention span and I like to mix things up as much as possible, so I was always going to love the form factor of the Sky Hunter Twist Slim. The icing on the sweet cake though has got to be that this kit is fully rechargeable so all you have to do is stock up on pods, and with a decent selection of flavours, this should be no hardship at all.

If you love disposable flavours but are looking for a more ethical way of vaping, the Sky Hunter Twist Slim is a strong contender. You can pick up the base kit from Vape Club for a very reasonable £11.99, and this also comes with your first four flavours. To put this into perspective, you get the equivalent of four disposables for the price of two, and you can then save even more down the line as the packs of pods come in at £5.99 for two cartridges. It won’t take long before you start to see quite a significant saving over single use vapes.

Pros

  • Budget friendly
  • Good selection of flavours
  • Rechargeable
  • Easy to use
  • Mix and match is simple as you are not tied to prechosen variety packs
  • Awesome name

Cons

  • Too sweet for traditional vapers
  • A bit chunky to stick in your pocket

Many thanks to Vape Club for sending in the Sky Hunter Twist Slim for review.
