OXVLA XLIM Pro 2

OXVA continue to push the limits with their new XLIM Pro 2 kit

I recently had the chance to take a look at OXVA’s ultra budget starter kit, the XLIM Go, and came away suitably impressed (review HERE). Now I have the opportunity to take its bigger brother, the XLIM Pro 2, for a test drive.

The OXVA XLIM Pro 2 is available in a whopping sixteen colour options so you’re really spoilt for choice here, I was sent the “silver carbon” and “dream purple” versions for testing. These come with your colour choice clearly visible through the front of the packaging, and once you remove the outer sleeve, you’re presented with the XLIM Pro 2 and a list of clear simple instructions on its operation.

This is a stroke of genius, that little list gives you all the information you need to operate the XLIM Pro 2 right out of the box without needing to refer to an instruction manual, and if you ever forget, you can long press the button on the side of the device and have these instructions displayed on the screen as well.

Underneath this top layer you will find an instruction leaflet, a lanyard, a nice braided USB-C charge cable, and a second XLIM Pod.

The XLIM Pro 2 follows the usual design of a slightly flattened pen style common in this sector of the market, size wise it’s about half a millimetre taller than the XLIM Go but feels much more substantial with its metal chassis instead of the plastic found in the XLIM Go.

Down one edge you’ll find the nicely textured power button, this is only used to operate the simple menu system though as this is a purely auto draw activated kit. That auto draw system has worked flawlessly, and the menu options have been easy to navigate right out of the box coupled with those simple instructions.

There are colourful resin panels on either side with a bright vibrant 0.56 inch screen on one side, OXVA are quite proud of this with claiming twice the pixel density and a 50% brighter screen than found in similar devices. This has been an absolute pleasure to use with all the information you need clearly laid out on the screen, and it’s even been easy to see clearly in the unusually sunny weather we’re currently experiencing in the U.K.

Pods are held securely at the top of the device by magnets, and here we can see the airflow tube and auto draw sensors along with spring loaded battery contacts. On the opposite side from the power button, there’s a fully adjustable airflow allowing you to adjust the draw to your liking along with the ability to manually set your power level in 1 watt increments up to the maximum 30 watts.

The internal 1300mAh battery is charged via the USB-C port at the base of the XLIM Pro 2. In my tests, this hit a peak charge rate of 1.55 amps, but I had to run the test twice because this is one of those frustrating occasions where the charge rate never drops to zero. On a second run, I recorded a usable capacity of 1120mAh which was achieved in just 54 minutes.

The XLIM Pro 2 is compatible with the full range of XLIM Pods and a 0.6 and 0.8ohm pod are both included in the box which have their resistance and suggested wattage range clearly marked on the base. These have a 2ml capacity along with a convenient side mounted fill port which means you don’t have to remove the pod to fill, and the slimline mouthpiece is very comfortable to use and the lightly tinted PCTG pods make it easy to see your e-liquid levels as well.

As I have recent experience of the 0.8ohm pods, which are superb by the way, I decided to dive right in and try the 0.6ohm pod this time around. To get the best draw for me I found closing the airflow down a fraction helped, this gave a similar modern loose mouth to lung draw as the 0.8ohm pods and the flavour is absolutely on point.

These XLIM Pods easily rival anything else on the market and are now counted in amongst my top picks. Their kanthal mesh coils are suitable if you are nickel sensitive like myself, and they are especially good when paired up with OXVA’s OX Passion range of e-lquids which are tailored towards disposable users with their strong flavour profiles.

Conclusion

I was pleasantly surprised by the OXVA XLIM Go and the XLIM Pro 2 takes everything I liked there and adds in an all metal chassis, bright screen, larger battery and adjustable wattage. It’s a little more expensive than the XLIM Go but can still typically fee found for around £25 often including a free 10ml bottle of e-liquid as well so it still falls comfortably into the budget category.

I was a twenty a day smoker for 25 years and like most smokers I was always going to quit "next week". Having hit my mid forties and having the usual smokers cough and difficulty with anything more than moderate exercise it was obviously time to give up the cancer sticks. I bought my first e-cigarette in 2013 when they were expensive, difficult to find and quite frankly... crap. I used it for about a week then went back to the roll ups, mark up another failed quit attempt. The fact that I had just changed jobs and was under quite a lot of stress probably didn't help. Move on to 2016 and whilst I was browsing eBay I noticed that one of the suggested items that would occasionally pop up was for a cheap e-cigarette. It looked similar to the one I'd bought 3 years earlier but it was only £5 (about 8 times cheaper than before) so I decided to give it another go on a whim. Once the kit arrived I managed to gradually replace the cigarettes with my new kit over a two month period and got into watching YouTube reviews for newer kit. My cheap and cheerful kit was replaced by a more upmarket affair, and being a noob I made a mistake once it arrived... I put in the supplied direct lung coil, this was of course a complete revelation and I haven't touched a cigarette since. Oh and I no longer spend the first five minutes of every day having a coughing fit either.
