With less than a week to go before the closing date for GFN24 Film Festival submissions, the team has made further reveals about this year’s event. This year’s Global Forum On Nicotine is rapidly approaching, have you registered to view the event online – or maybe it’s the year you plan on visiting Warsaw in person?

Not only is there less than a week to get your entry in for the GFN Film Festival, this includes the #GFNFives and Science Lab entries too. You have until the 15th of May 2024 to submit your film entries for #GFN24!

Making further event reveals, the organisers say: “A focus of this year’s Global Forum On Nicotine is the crossroads between sensible economic and risk-proportionate public health policy, and the challenges facing regulators and practitioners in assessing appropriate response to risk. Exploring this theme are two sessions examining the real-world function of tobacco harm reduction and the power the precautionary principle plays in the regulatory responses to safer products.

Garrett McGovern’s #GFN24 keynote ‘Over/misinterpretation of the precautionary principle in relation to safer nicotine’ will take a closer look at harm reduction's balancing act of risk and reward - who should ultimately decide the limits of risk? A longstanding medical practitioner in the field of substance use, Dr McGovern is currently Medical Director of the Priority Medical Clinic, and he was appointed Clinical Lead for the HSE Addiction Services in Louth Meath & The Midlands in 2022. Dr McGovern’s keynote will be hosted by GFN23 keynote speaker Sarah Cooney, with veteran drugs harm reduction researcher and advocate Alex Wodak offering the response.”

Turning to the #GFN24 panel discussion ‘Legislation and regulation - health and economic consequences’, a wealth of well known experts will be taking to the stage.

Hosted by Clive Bates, the former director of Action on Smoking and Health and a leading THR commentator,” the organisers add, “[It] will look at the challenges involved in creating risk-proportionate regulation appropriate for safer nicotine products. In particular this panel will ask, what are the health and economic impacts of tobacco control measures, and what role should proportionate regulation and risk management of safer products play? This panel will feature experts from a broad range of professional backgrounds, including David SweanorStefanie MillerKonstantinos Farsalinos and Joe Thompson, who will offer their unique perspectives on this central topic of harm reduction.”

Finally, the organisers are keen to check if you’ve registered for #GFN24, because the exclusive discount accommodation deal at the Marriott Warsaw is only available until 10 May 2024!
