Vape Companies Sign Up for Verification Tech

Leading vape retail companies sign up for 1account’s age verification technology

Share on:
Some of the UK’s most successful vape retail companies have signed up to use age verification specialist 1account’s market-leading technology across their e-commerce sites. The five companies, E-cigarette, Royal Flush, Vapourcore, Vape Superstore and VPZ, between them receive hundreds of thousands of visitors to their sites every month, all of which by law need to be age verified.

It is illegal for retailers – online or off – to sell e-cigarettes, e-liquids and “alternative burn tobacco” products to anyone under 18. For online stores this can prove particularly difficult without any physical contact with their customers.

1account’s leading technology takes care of all age and identity requirements, giving its users reassurance that they always remain within the law, freeing them to concentrate on their core operations.

Ed Swain, managing director of Vape Superstore, which in addition to having one of the UK’s most visited online vape shops also has bricks and mortar stores across London and Reading, said: “With over 1,000 transactions taking place on our website every day it is imperative to have robust processes in place to ensure our goods don’t fall into the hands of minors, in fact it’s the single biggest challenge to our business and one we are passionate about.

“1account is superior to our previous age verification process for a number of reasons, the most important being its effectiveness and robustness at preventing underaged sales but also its ease of integration into our own e-commerce systems and the fact it is an automated process which streamlines our overall operations.”

Unlike other providers 1account does not charge for its main age verification solution even though it has a far higher success rate at preventing underage sales than competitors.

Ed continued: “There are always going to be underage people wanting to try an adult activity like smoking or vaping, and it is up to us as responsible retailers to put everything we can in place to prevent that from happening.

“When we heard about 1account’s success rate and looked into it seriously we fully expected we’d have to pay a premium fee, so it was a surprise to find out it came with no charge at all.

“Our initial testing of the software found it was as we’d hoped: fluid, simple and intuitive to use with the highest success rate we’ve known.”

Doug Mutter, director of VPZ which has over 150 stores nationwide as well as a thriving e-commerce business, said: “I firmly believe the vaping sector here in the UK is ahead of other industries when it comes to harm reduction, and of course age verification is at the heart of that commitment.

“With so many physical stores in the UK our shop staff are highly trained and fully know their responsibilities towards younger people and the serious legal ramifications of selling vape products to minors.

“However, online can be a trickier proposition, which is why it is vitally important to have an age verification partner with a proven track record in preventing such sales.

“We had heard about 1account’s solutions and success rate and had no hesitation about implementing their software into our e-commerce operation, which has performed brilliantly and not only delivers a fast, efficient service to our thousands of online customers, it also provides our business with the reassurance that we have as much as possible in place to prevent underage sales.”

Ben Keirle, Chief Executive of 1account, commented: “Retailers selling age restricted products face a daily challenge to ensure their goods don’t fall into the hands of anyone who is underage, with huge penalties for any breach of these strict laws.

“For many companies this can be a time-consuming and expensive process, sometimes costing tens of thousands of pounds, which is where the 1account solution comes into its own as retailers are not charged to use our software.”

He continued: “With our instantaneous identity and age verification service, users can verify their age while being confident that their personal details are secured by 1account’s state-of-the-art technology.

“There is no interruption to the purchase process or added cost, and as soon at the age verification is successful the user can continue their purchasing journey as normal.”

He added: “We are thrilled to announce these partnerships with E-cigarette, Royal Flush, Vape Superstore, Vapourcore and VPZ, all of which are highly responsible companies who put their customers’ wellbeing first and take the law, especially, around age restricted sales seriously.”

1account’s age verification is designed to help online vendors stay on the right side of the law by offering fair, transparent, independent and secure age verification for those who are offering age-restricted products and/or services.
