Free Vapes for Manc Smokers

Smokers in Manchester are now able to obtain free vape kits thanks to a trial being conducted by Trafford Council

Share on:
Trafford Council has been launched a trial that aims to help smokers switch from cigarettes to vaping in order to reduce their exposure to tobacco-related harm. Smokers attending one of the pharmacies taking part will receive free equipment and support. Planet of the Vapes applauds the forward-thinking move.

Smokers in the Trafford Council area can now benefit from a brilliant new scheme where six pharmacies will be giving away starter kits for free to anybody signing up to the trial program.

The project includes a vape kit with enough juice to last for four weeks, and access to a consultation session with a smoking cessation specialist. Advice will be given on how best to approach switching from smoking to vaping, how to use the equipment and an opportunity to get answers to any other questions.

The only proviso is that people applying to take part are over the age of 18, resident in the region and not pregnant. The project ends at the end of March – so be sure to encourage friends and relations to take up the opportunity quickly.

Ben Fryer, Public Health Registrar at Trafford Council, said: “While e-cigarettes contain nicotine, just like traditional nicotine patches and gums, they don’t produce the cancer-causing carcinogens that are produced by burning tobacco. As a result, Public Health England estimates that e-cigarettes are 95% safer than tobacco.”

"E-cigarettes are recommended as one option to help people stop smoking by Public Health England, the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence and the medical royal colleges.”

Councillor Judith Lloyd, Executive Member for Health and Wellbeing at Trafford Council, said: "One of the best things that anyone can do in 2019 to improve their health and wellbeing is to stop smoking. We are offering Trafford residents a free e-cigarette starter kit, with professional smoking cessation support to encourage people to stop smoking in 2019.”

"If you currently smoke but would like to quit, and would like to try a free e-cigarette, please visit one the 6 pharmacies in Trafford who are offering this service before the end of March.”
